We will hopefully be going to CRT during our next trip which will be to celebrate our daughters 5th birthday. I have seen for $90 +/- you can get a balloon and cake. It seems like a cute idea and would certainly make her birthday a little more special, but i would like to hear from those of you who have done it if you think it is worth the money?

We usually do not to spoil our kids but during a trip to Disney it is sometimes nice to do something special.

I wonder if this is just not a popular thing to do.

I ordered a Rapunzel cake for my DD at CRT for our upcoming June trip. I sure hope it's worth it! I can let you know my thoughts when we return.

I've never done the pkg, but we do at least one custom cake per trip. For me, I think getting the cake is worth it since the dining room (regardless of where you get the cake) oooos and aaaahhhs over the cake. In other words, it makes the recipient feel very special. That being said, I like having more unique cakes, so we've never done any pkgs. You might look at some of the cake info on the Cake Chatter to see what you could get in a 6" cake vs. the pkg cost. I mean, I got a 6" fondant cake from the GF last summer topped with a 2d image of a character and I think it would have been $62 or $64 had I not requested fruit in the filling (which bumped it to like $72). The Contemporary bakery services CRT, and it couldn't hurt to email them to see what they can do and for how much if the other things included in the CRT pkg aren't overly important (i.e the balloon, etc.).

I realize that this is not a princess cake, but just to give you an idea of what a $64ish 6" cake looks like from the GF. Different fondant colors and decorations as well as your DD"s fave princess on top and it could be a cheaper and more unique alternative if the other goodies in the pkg are not important.

I'm not sure if they can be delivered to CRT, but they have mini cakes, like a large cupcake on the bottom and a regular sized cupcake on top of it, to form the cake. I've seen pictures on the cake thread. They can be decorated in a variety of ways. Also, no carrying leftover campground the park after!!!

They should be able to deliver a mini wedding cake to CRT. I had the one below delivered to Crystal Palace and I know people who have other non-pkg cakes delivered to various MK restaurants, including CRT.

Edit- this cake was also before the Contemporary bakery got a bit picky with designs for their mini cakes, but it can't hurt to ask for customization as they seem to be moving back to doing more from some I've seen.

This is all great input!! I love seeing the cakes. I have always made my birthday cakes for my kids -- they certainly do not compare to these!

Great idea-we really don't need anything over the top with balloons and such, so just ordering the cake would be great. I didn't realize that we could get a cake delivered to different restaurants. That is something that i will have to research a little more.

It is expensive, but a smile from your kids is always worth it, but keep in mind if you get a cake and want to keep what you don't finish, you'll have to keep it with you. From my experience they won't store the cake for you.

I say go for it, especially if you will not be having a friend party at home. I've not done it, but I'm sure it's super special for a young birthday princess.

1. contem does the cakes for cindy's in MK not GF.
2. they don't do those princess ones with the plastic princess doll stuck in them anymore as far as i know.
3. they now do a fondant covered cake ($80) with a ton of diff princess pics (pics on cake thread) that feet 6-8 people (i feel more). they are pretty nice.
4. they will also do a mini single person version for 50 dollars.

i am looking at the email now cause we are getting one this trip. we have done the old one in the past. it was nice. these new ones are nicer i feel.

We did this for my DD's 4th birthday in January. I booked the package and the tiara and balloon were waiting at our table. The balloon was half deflated.

Despite ordering desserts with our meal, when it was time for dessert to come, our waiter brought out the Ariel cake I had ordered. DD loved it but there was no signing, and nothing special about the delivery. It was also just me, DH, DD and our then 10 week old baby.

The waiter never returned, and I was a bit miffed that even though we certainly didn't need our paid-for desserts, we never received them. He did however deliver the cake with a sturdy box that we used to bring the rest back to the resort - we were staying at the Bay Lake Tower in a 1 bedroom with a full size fridge which was necessary for the size of the box IMO - and we headed out of the park right after lunch. They will not store the cake for you.

IMO, it is not something my DD has mentioned since and while she enjoyed the cake, I wouldn't do it again. It cost us $130 or so for the package. *MAYBE* if we were going in a large group who could enjoy the cake, I would order another one, but just for the 3(plus baby) of us it felt a bit silly.

I do custom cakes on the side, so it was really tough the first time I handed over that responsibility to one of the Disney bakeries. They usually do a nice job and the Belle cake that they made for my older DD's 5th bday had all of Chef Mickey's gushing. I mean, we had chefs and servers coming over because they all loved it so much. She was utterly blown away by her cake. Definitely check out the Cake Chatter thread in this section as it can guide you as to options available all over property. There are multiple bakeries and options will vary by resort and park...and in some cases, restaurant.

I did it last June for my (at the time) 2.5 year old daughter. First you should know that you don't have to do the package. If you just want the cake that is possible. Everything is available al la cart and you will see that if you write to ask for information. They will send you a brochure. :-)

Here are my thoughts. My daughter loved the balloon and we've refilled it because she liked it so much. I thought the tiara was a rip off. I was expecting something that had sides so a child could wear it. Yes there was a picture included in the brochure but it didn't show the side of the tiara at all. It's hard to explain but the comb was part of the tiara. It wouldn't stay in any of the girls' hair (I bought 2 extra for my nieces dining with us as well).

The cake exceeded my expectations. I was seeing the old version of the cakes on the internet which made me question whether to even order it because I thought this new version looked cheap. Upon seeing it in person, I totally changed my mind.

If I remember correctly, the cake was served after we received out desserts. I will say there was a total of 9 of us that were dining together (3 of which were kids, 2 2-year olds and 1 5-year old) and we only ate about half the cake. As someone said above they will not store the left overs for you. You can take it with you and they will provide you a box for that if you decide you want to do that. There wasn't any fanfare with the delivery of the cake but the look on my daughter's face made it worth it.

I keep trying to upload a picture of the cake but I'm having issues. I'll try to upload it later.

Ok Here is one image of the cake. I will say that the image of Rapunzel, was much clearer in person. Something about the camera fuzzied it up.

I think people are not responding because of this, in bold: would like to hear from those of you who have done it if you think it is worth the money?

I have not done it, so if you don't want to hear my opinion, stop reading now...

It is a lot for a cake. The cake does look pretty, but $90 is a chunk of change. At her age, I'm not sure if she would be $90 worth of impressed. I think a cupcake and a little present you bring in your purse (maybe a princess figure) would be just as good!

I agree the money for a cake and a balloon is crazy. Would I pay that at home? - never!! I am glad that there are some less expensive options out there to stll make it special without breaking the bank.

I ordered 2 mini cakes in 2013 from the contemporary. They were cute (1 Ariel and 1 Jessie) and I had them delivered to whispering Canyon cafe. I thought they were tasty and the kids ate a few bites.

Later that trip we ate at CRT and I ordered two of the glass slipper desserts for my mom and I since we were celebrating a girls only birthday trip. I think my girls enjoyed the slippers more and they were considerable cheaper.

Haven't done the package but we did get a Princess cake for my DD's birthday last year. It was beautiful and Disney cakes are delicious! I've also gotten mini anniversary cakes in the past and trying to finalize a design for our upcoming trip. I think if you look at the cake chatter thread you'll find it's a little addicting ordering cakes. ;)
