CRT food was Awful!!

Sorry the OP didn't have a good meal - we had the opposite experience. We ate at CRT for dinner a little over a month ago & we thought the food was very good - the beef tenderloin was absolutely fantastic! We had always done breakfast at CRT in the past - from now on, we will probably be eating there for dinner.

Thanks, I'm glas to read a positive post...I'm still debating on this one...

I'm confused--your first sentence, "Always has been, always will be."--you seem to be agreeing about the food being awful. Then, in your last sentence, you say that you have never actually had an awful meal there. Which is it?

I can't imagine it's really that important to clarify, but I suppose I should have said "inedible" in the last part. Hope that helps. :confused3

I'm sorry that so many people seem to settle for the line, "You're not paying for the food, you're paying for the castle".

What nonsense.

As if any restaurant that has a nice atmosphere doesn't have to worry about the quality of the meals they are serving.

I can't believe how lousy the menu has become. I remember the days of fresh Caesar salads being prepared table side and prime rib sliced to order by a chef right there in the dining room. (Seconds or thirds ? Not a problem !)

The food was delicious. After all, this was Cinderella's castle, the very focal point of the entire Magic Kingdom.

Now, it's fried chicken and dry pork chops.

What a shame.

We skipped it when we took DD last year. Maybe when they are old enough to appreciate the whole experience.

I'm sorry to hear that! I've never been there for dinner, but I've had several breakfasts and they've all been just fine, and the atmosphere is to die for!

What a shame...it looks like they changed the menu when they started having the princesses at dinner instead of just the fairy godmother and the mice.

The salad I *loved* is gone! :sad1:

And the chicken dish I liked is no longer there either.

It's not just CRT, all the restaurants have "streamlined" their menus. The quality has also declined...

doesn't look as enticing as before. I had considered dinner since they added the princess but it look as if we will be going to lunch not dinner. I saw that the lunch menu has also changed but the Major Domo remains. That works for me.

I eat at CRT every trip for dinner and have never had bad food....the prime rib is the best I have ever had.....I do not like the breakfast because it not filling and bland to me

Each experience has a different perception. Someone may report they loved the dinner the same night you went. We have reacted the same way to other meals at WDW. Usually we will give them a second try and if it fails twice then we move on. Exception: Bad meal and bad service combined.

We have done breakfast at CRT 4 times and it has always been VERY good. One of our favorite breakfasts. We did dinner once and it was good as well - prime rib - 8 on a 10 scale.

Akershus character dining for dinner has been good for us both times we have done this. The food was good to very good.

Hope our magic regarding these two continues :wizard:

Free dining strikes again.

Folks, if you want really good food you usually need to pay for it. Places like CRT have taken more to the notion that people simply want the experience of dining in a "signature" restaurant and food quality has become secondary. In my opinion, there are very few "signature" restaurants left that provide the combination of atmosphere and good food.

I am sorry for your bad meal. We have eaten there the past 2 years but only have done breakfast. The breakfast was wonderful and everyone loved it. Most of the men (we were a large party) all had 2nds and got the eggs and then the french toast. They were also very accomindating with my 5 year old, who will refuse to eat off her plate is there are eggs on it. we told the waiter ahead of time and he made sure there were no eggs on her plate and added extra frenchtoast and fruit.

I've never actually had an awful meal there, but I've never gone in expecting a good one either.
Exactly. The food is average to below average, even for WDW. With the right expectations it's fine, but only just. I've been twice now, once for breakfast, and once for lunch. As my kids are getting to be old enough to not go speechless at the sight of a "princess", I probably won't be back until I take grandchildren---far into the future, by which time I will probably need to sell a kidney to afford it.

This could be, but CRT is a different level of "secondary". It's not a "Signature" meal---and has never tried to be---so much as a popular character experience.

If you are looking for Princesses with decent food, Akershus is a much better bet---at least it was several years ago. The food there was better than average in WDW terms, I thought.

There was a time when CRT, especially back when it was King Stefan's Banquet Hall, offered very above-average dining. Cinderella was usually there, but it was a first-rate restaurant more than a character meal.

We had breakfast there last Christmas. We were so excited to share the experience with our family (it was our gift to them). Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. The service was terrible. We never got seconds on anything (drinks, fruit, muffins), mostly because our server rarely came back over to our table. Then we felt like we were being rushed out. The whole thing (including meeting the princesses) lasted less than an hour. It was so disappointing (several hundred dollars wasted).

I really hope that was an unusual occurrence, but we will definitely not be in a rush to return. We went about 8 years ago and it was spectacular, peter pan and wendy in addition to the princesses and we never felt rushed.

We ate there for lunch about a week and a half ago. I was so excited about going, had been wanting to go for years but with only a DS he really did not want to go. This trip with friends who have girls we went with them and I was so unimpressed. The food was very average to below average. Maybe I had built it up in my mind to be more than it ended up being. Characters were ok, but I much preferred the character interactions at the other character meals we did. CRT was my least favourite meal this trip I think :sad1: I wish it hadn't been and we ate at a lot of restaurants this trip.

Breakfast may be better food wise, I'm not sure as I haven't had breakfast, but lunch was really nothing I would recommend, the appertizer was just terrible.

I'm still glad that I ate in the castle, but will not be rushing back for lunch or dinner again unless there is an overhaul with menu and quality. Would consider giving breakfast a go though after reading good comments on the breakfast.

You aren't paying for the food at CRT, you are paying for the experience. My recommendation - do breakfast first thing in the morning.

????? What the food does not count at that price!

I will NOT return for poor food and service. I also don't like being rushed to eat in order to make room for the next person :sad2:
