CRT and gift cards

Planning my first WDW trip next May and plan on snagging a ressie at CRT. I know prepayment is required but can I use a Disney gift card for that or does it have to be on a credit card?

Also, how do charge? I want to get a breakfast reservation but what price would be charged if everything costs a different price? I plan on getting the DDP but would like to pay for this meal OOP.

The easiest thing to do would be to hold it on the DDP and when you arrive tell them you'd like to pay cash instead and use your GC to pay then.
