I am not affected, but have a friend who’s been stuck at LAX (Los Angeles) since this am with her entire family. They were supposed to be on the first flight out to ORL for their first Disney Cruise….after many delays…her flight was cancelled. Any else in the same boat? Such a terrible thing to happen.

Not sure what you’re talking about but flights are stuck all over the US and part of the rest of the world. Just a glitch, though, not terrorism.

Just stated that her flight got cancelled and was wondering if anyone else was going through the same. Didn't say anything about terrorism. I understand that it has affected the US and the world.

Always fly in the day before. The ships usually leave on Saturday. Maybe still time to make it to MCO by 4 tomorrow??
We always do and give ourselves a 2 day buffer...especially since one time we got our flight cancelled and I wound up driving from NJ to FL in one shot. Just sucks for them being in CA, there is no way to make that drive even if they tried.

The 3-night WISH cruises depart on FRIDAYS from Port Canaveral.

@KC Fan so sorry your friends missed their cruise! I do hope they had insurance. I've just gotten back online after being locked out all day. Frustrating for me to make up a day of work, but at least I didn't miss a cruise.

My first thought, when I heard, was - I wonder if anyone missed getting on the Utopia OTS first voyage today from PC because they were booked on a morning flight. Not proud of that, but I am curious.

Did they call DCL? Since this was a global event maybe they will work with them to change the cruise to another date.

When a lot of flights cancel. It can take days to get another flight. Everyone is trying to rebook. It's not like when just your flight cancels. Flying in the day before may not have helped.

So just heard from my friend. They booked through Costco, and because they didn’t have insurance Costco couldn’t refund them, however they did contact DCL, and were given the option to rebook but it would cost $300/per person. That is the best DCL could do. DCL did offer them that they could fly to Nassau to join them, but no flights are leaving until at least Sunday….just a terrible line up of events.

Well...flying today may not have helped those with embarkation tomorrow if today's flight was cancelled and they can't get another for a few days.

But flying in yesterday would most certainly have helped those with a cruise departing today. Hindsight is 20/20.

That's unfortunate. I'm sure they won't be the only family missing a cruise this weekend. I've gotten stuck in Orlando a few times, but I've never had trouble getting there. Knock on wood. At least it's July when flights are not as full into Florida. It would be worse in the Winter.

Costco offers insurance, but I don't think it's ever a automatic refund. You have to file a claim. DCL insurance is only 75%, 300 a person is not a bad deal.

Ugh, I'm so sorry. That's so disappointing. I know it won't help for this time, but some things I've learned over the years and always recommend to my clients:

1) Fly in as early before the cruise as you can. At least a day. 2-3 days is better if you can swing it. If this means you have to go with a 4-night cruise instead of a 7-night cruise, it's worth it IMO. I can always find you something fun to do on land before you sail!!

2) GET INSURANCE.

3) Book your flights themselves DIRECTLY with the airline. When you do this, you can advocate for yourself in the moment. When you book your flights direct, you can even often rebook your own flights instantly online if there's a delay or cancellation. In scenarios that involve lots of flight cancellations, it's like the Hunger Games. Time is of the essence here.

4) This one takes a gut feeling leap of faith, and it's a gamble. But if my flight is delayed and there's one in an hour or two that's still listed as on time, I usually switch to the later one if there are seats available. If a flight is delayed once, there's a decent chance it will be delayed again. And maybe again. And then maybe cancelled.

5) This last one only works when you've given yourself an extra day to get there. But when it's a HUGE mess like yesterday was, don't wait around. In situations like yesterday, the reality is that it may take a day or two until you can get on a flight to your actual destination. So if getting on that cruise is the top priority for you, ask the airline if there are any flights departing that would get you relatively close to your destination. Then rent a car the rest of the way. Or hop in your car and start driving.

Great advice!

They're being allowed to transfer their DCL funds to book a new cruise for only a $300 pp fee? If so, that's great. I hope they took advantage of that and I'm sorry they had such bad luck to be seriously delayed by this outage.
