Crowds week before Christmas v. Thanksgiving crowds??

We are thinking of going to WDW December 18-24. How are the crowds at this time? How is the weather? Would it be better or worse to go during Thanksgiving week?

I don't have first hand experience but I've been told that Thanksgiving week, Christmas to New Years and 4th of July are the busiest time periods. We are visiting December 17th through the 23rd. I read somewhere on the boards that crowds aren't bad prior to Christmas and build slowly approaching the 24th.

That's when the crowds start getting into full swing. However, the week BEFORE Christmas isn't bad at all. The week AFTER Christmas is a nightmare! July 4th week is awfully crowded AND unlike Christmas time, the weather is pretty oppressive with the heat, crowds and humidity.
