Well my family and I will be there July 25th - August 3rd. I'm simply going with the expectation of crowds. I've been to WDW in summer for the Millenium Celebration, Walt's 100th Birthday and I've also been to WDW at Christmas and Halloween. All times it's been crowded. It's Disney, and lots of people go. Just have a stragey - use fastpass, EMH, take mid day breaks, don't plan on doing and seeing it all, because you can't.
I've never had a bad time because of crowds. I think it's part of the Disney atmosphere. I love going in summer. To me, there is no other better time to visit. The heat doesn't bother me...I just swim in the afternoons and take breaks when it gets too hot.
!!!! I have never heard of people having problems getting rooms in May like I have lately. Resorts seem to be full!! We called and switched our resort two days ago to the POLY 
(my first time staying there and can not wait!!!), we had planned 7 nights at POR and when we called to change to Poly, we could only get 6 nights (we call at least twice a day to see if anything becomes open so that we can add our extra night). My in-laws are going with us and they had tried to add two days to their trip a week or two ago and could not because POR was booked. So, I am thinking that with their big celebration theme this year...resorts and parks are going to be full. The fun is still there and so is the magic....just gotta be prepared for the crowds! YEAHHHHHH.....my husband just called and said we got our extra night at POLY
