Crowds the First Week of January

I am helping a friend plan their family's first WDW trip. They are planning on going the first week of January. Since I have not been during that time, I don't know how the crowds are then. Are they still big or not so bad after New Year's Day?

It really seems to clear out around the 3rd.

We were there the 1st thru the 8th last year, and it was fairly crowded until Friday. The Marathon was over the weekend, and although the parks were thinning out, the restaurants were crowded. We have never gone during a peak season though, so I have nothing to campare to.

We were also there this past January 1st week, and I was surprised how crowded it was all week, especially the first four days. I expect even higher crowds next year, as New Years Day falls on a Monday. Best to wait til the second week of January if you can.

The first week of January will be crowded. There are schools in the country that don't go back until the 8th. We went this year the second week of January and it was fantastic. Going same week in January '07.
