Crowds last week of December

This is my first post here. I have been reading many of the threads about crowds between Dec 25 and Jan 1 and I am getting very worried. I will be traveling with my mom and 2 kids (10 and 4). Will it be an absolute ridiculous time to try to enjoy the parks? Will we be subjected to 2 hour waits for Peter Pan's Flight? We won't be staying on property as it is out of our budget and I have been reading about parking lots closing and gates closing to off site visitors. For the budget-minded is it worth it to spend $800 on tickets during this time? Will we be throwing away money because we couldn't ride everything at least once? Any advice would be appreciated. We are also planning a trip for summer '08 so, although it would be disappointing to not visit Disney for another year and a half, we could probably survive. Also, we don't care about all the decorations as we are Jewish so missing that is not a hardship. Thanks for any help you can give.

To be hones, it will be EXTREMELY CROWDED. 2 hour waits are not uncommon. It is the busiest and most crowded time of the year. The magic Kingdom will fill to capacity by 11:00 and closed to those not on property most days. I don't mean to worry you, but most people that go this week, go for the decorations and Christams atmosphere. if you can, push the trip up or back a week or two. Even one week before or after will make a HUGE difference in crowd size.
