Crowds - Labor Day Weekend

We were there last year during Labor Day weekend...MK was quite busy compared to the week earlier and MGM was REALLY busy because of the Tom Joyner family reunion...I think they hold it at that park specifically. Now, that being said, we've always gone to WDW in off times so what seemed busy for us probably isn't really!

It's funny that touring plans indicates the week leading up to the weekend as busier than the actual holiday weekend. That doesn't seem realistic just based on locals coming for the weekend...I bet starting Tues. it will be great, but unfortunately we have to leave that day and get the kids to school Wed. Still the time period we're going has got to be vastly better than the summer weeks before.

I wonder if that's a blackout period for resident pass holders? :confused3 If so, that could explain the low crowds.

We have to head home on Labor Day. :guilty: I was hoping to stay until the Tuesday or Wednesday after. However, our Mayor decided to have school start on Tuesday instead of Wednesday or Thursday. :sad2:

I'm 38, and I don't remember school ever starting the day after Labor Day. :furious:

Oh well, five days of WDW are better than nothing. :dance3:

I will be at WDW Sept 2 - Sept 7. I was worried about the crowds on Labor Day weekend but decided that is still couldn't be worse that June at WDW so I booked. I am excited to see that it won't be as crowded as I thought.

Disneyjunkie - I thought you were on to something :thumbsup2 ... so I checked out the blackout dates for the FL resident passes, but Labor Day weekend is not included.

I am puzzled as to why the crowds are predicted to be so low over Labor Day weekend, too ! :confused3 Not sure I really believe it .

We will be there 8/25 through 9/6 and I am working on a plan for the parks for 9/1 through 9/5 right now. Does anyone think Fantasmic for the night of 9/1 (Friday of Labor Day weekend) will be a bad idea ? I have read that the Tom Joyner family reunion will be holding a special event at MGM on 9/2, so I though we'd try Fantasmic the night before ... what do you all think ?

Also, what are your thoughts on evening EMH on 9/1 at Epcot and 9/3 at MK ?
Do you think it will be packed or manageable ?

:sunny: Cindy

My plan is to avoid MGM Friday and Saturday because I heard the Joyner Family Reunion will be holding events at MGM on those nights. Not sure if those ticketed events affect park crowds or not. If you go to Fantasmic on those nights I would make sure I got the dining package just in case!

The Joyner events look great! Can you buy tickets for individual events or do you have to buy the whole package?

The crowd level is a "6." I have never been to WDW when the level was so high!

I've called several times to try and purchase individual event tickets. Right now you can only buy the whole package.

The last CM I spoke with said that individual tickets will be released near the end of the summer.

We will be in AKL 8/30-9/3..My only concern is the seemingly increasing popularity or the free dining plan, and how much it will increase the crowds.. :confused3

Darn, I was planning on going to see Fantasmic on that Saturday night that we fly in because MGM has EMH that night. Maybe I need to rethink, thanks for the heads up.

Make sure you arrive early or book one of the dinner packages...we couldn't get in to Fantasmic last year on the Sat of Labor Day because of the family reunion and it was EMH also.

I really appreciate the heads up. How was the EMH after Fantasmic, was it still packed?

I am heading down Saturday Sept 2 not ariving until 11pm so you really can't count that day. And Leaving the Wednesday the 6th. Staying off site at a cheap hotel but flights and hotel was only 650 for 3 people didn't think that was bad.

Plan on Sea World the first day its close to the hotel, MK on Monday hoping crowds are smaller,

Not Sure which of the other parks I should do for Tuesday with a 3yr old any ideas its her first time and I want to pick the best park for her.

We are going back for a big vacation in 2008 with the whole family.
