Does anyone have any experience with the crowds during that time period. We usually go 12-18 to 1-2 but this year had to change. Just curious. I am sure it is much less than Christmas time.

Thanks. Happy Holidays.

It is much less than Christmas. In 2003 we went from Jan. 1st - 12th. The 1st was on a Wed. and it was pretty busy until that Sunday. This year with the 2nd being a holiday I would think that the crowds would start going down after that. See you there we'll be down on the 12th until the 23rd.

I'm hoping that the crowds drop down after the 2nd as we'll be arriving that afternoon and hitting the parks on the 3rd. We may bump into you during our stay...

Just looking and reading, sound like a full house first couple of weeks in January. I see a big convention and marathon and rooms sold out.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this.

p.s. looks like the weather will be great the first week, hoping for the second week too :sunny:

The Marathon has little to no effect on park attendance. It does fill up rooms and it does wreak havoc with WDW buses (and your car, if you have one) on the mornings of the 7th and 8th, but the parks are empty.

Don't know about park crowds but do know all the rooms are sold out from 1/10-1/15.
I'm currently showing confirmed availability for those dates at Pop Century, All Stars, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, Fort Wilderness, Caribbean Beach, Yacht Club, Wilderness Lodge, and BoardWalk.

Coronado Springs, Polynesian, Port Orleans, Beach Club, Contemporary, Animal Kingdom Lodge, and Grand Floridian are sold-out.

::yes::

DH has been running the marathon since 2002 - the parks are always nice and slow during that time.

We even were able to change our ressie at VWL from a studio to a 2 bedroom just 2 weeks ago. Definately rooms available!

The only problem is traffic on the days mentioned by a previous poster.

HAVE FUN!!!

We always go down right after Christmas because there are virtually no crowds. We have been there for the marathon, and never had a problem with insane crowds at the parks.

We went for Christmas week one year, and it was so crowded that people were walking elbow to elbow, it was too crazy for us.

I think that you will be pleased with the lack of crowds in WDW!!

Factors to consider.....

...Marathon weekend is now bigger since the races are split into two days and allowing for the possibility of twice as many runners - which could mean close to 40,000 :earseek:

...many school districts are out until the 9th including us so there are bound to be more families there on vacation or with the runners. Last year we went to the race for long weekend only - because of school, and now going for the entire week.

...the last time the school vacations fell this way was 2002, we went for the week and the parks were very crowded, worse than we have had some summers. Even the annual winter campers said it was more crowded than they ever saw it.

We are preparing for crowds and if they don't go to the parks, we'll be very happy :cool1:

there is a church youth group conference at Coronado Springs 13-16 Jan. 1500 people expected to attend.

there's also a cheerleading competition MLK, Jr. weekend.

We'll be there January 4-11th. Hoping for low crowd levels and nice weather! See you all there!!!

We'll be there Dec. 30-Jan. 14. I have been lead to believe that crowds should be fairly low for the dates you mentioned. I guess we'll find out!!! :cool1:

We'll be there the 5th-9th and hope the crowds aren't too bad. I have never been anytime except the summertime.

Remember -- LIME GREEN RIBBONS!

We'll be sporting lime green Mickey's on our stroller and backpack. Say "HI" if you see us.

I hate to be stupid. :confused3 What marathon is everyone talking about? When exactly is it (from when to when) and where does it take place?

We will be in WDW 1/8 - 1/14.

I'm hoping the parks won't be too crowded. We usually go the week after Thanksgiving, it's great.

went on our honeymoon Jan 9-18 in 2004 and we had little to no wait time on rides! It was great-hope that helps
