We were there during that time period in 2002. With FOTL access, the crowds were never an issue. However, if you are not staying on site, it will definitely seem crowded. Regular wait times for some attractions were in excess of 1 hour, but I don't think we ever waited more than 10-15 minutes. We stayed at the HRH. We were told the hotel was sold out that week, but it never seemed too crowded around the pool. The weather was beautiful that week. I wouldn't hesitate to go back during that time, as long as we were onsite.
