Hi, this is my first post. So please excuse any errors I make.

:D

We bought into SSR last fall. I made our first DVC reservations for June 6 through June 12 at SSR. Normally, we vacation at WDW in mid May. My question is, how will the crowd size on June 6-12 compare to the crowd size in mid May. It is all priced under the same category so I'm hoping the crowds aren't much worse in June. Thanks.

I also want to say this board provides more information than even Disney can provide on DVC. I read through hundreds of discussions to make sure I knew the DVC's good points and bad points before I bought in. I want to thank everyone for helping me make the decision to buy with confidence. ::yes::

Welcome to the boards! :)

The parks will be busy, many schools in the South will be out for the summer. However, it will be even busier later in the month as schools in the North and West let out the end of the 2nd weeks of June. It will be busier than mid-May, but during May the parks can close early for Grad Nights.

We have been there at that time for three years in a row. The crowds are a little heavier than May time since, as Chuck said, a lot of schools are getting out at the end of May. Our schools get out by the end of May, also, in Arizona.

I find the crowds fairly manageable. Get to the parks early, take advantage of EE if you would like and e-ride night to do all the big rides at MK. We just do EE at MK to get Fantasyland done for our kiddos. Do fastpass when the wait is longer than 30 minutes and leave the parks in the afternoon for a nice break swimming at the resort in the very bad heat of the afternoon.

We love going during this time. We would be doing it again this year, but BIL who is vacationing with us hates the Florida humidity and we will be vacationing over Thanksgiving instead.

We'll be there too! Hubby has a conference in Orlando (1st -5th)so we'll be down. We're at the WIlderness Lodge 6/5-6/12. It will be busy. You can do the mornings/nights park thing and swim all afternoon when it's hot. We love this plan. This year we got AP's so sometimes we don't even hit the parks til 8pm. It's bustling and fun. The last two years we have gone in June and had a ball.

Welcome Home! :)

Thanks everyone.

We usually do the early entry and hang at the hotel in the afternoon. I was thinking since SSR is only half finished, there will be less guests and it will be less crowded at the pool. I figure the bus trips will also be less crowded. :wave2:

Crowds are larger in that week of June than mid-May and you may likely feel they are significantly larger. Note for the future: if you plan to go in June after June 12, you will find the crowds huge in comparison to mid-May because mid-June is when the summer crowds really start to pour in.

June 6 and 7 are part of the schedule for the Gay Day Celebration. Crowds can be heavier those particular days due to the large number of participants.

DISNEY4FUN - we'll be at SSR the week after you (our dates are June 13-18). Since SSR is not open to us til June 7th, and we wanted a full Sun-Fri stay to save points...we decided to bite the bullet and bear the crowds this year. Honestly, we're planning plenty of pool & water park days and will probably save many days of our 7 day park hoppers for another trip.

Our kids get out of school on May 21st this year...so after 2004 we'll be going to Disney during the last week in May on an annual basis.

kweaver,

I noticed your trip is a birthday trip. My four year old son shares the June 13th birthday. I was trying to come up with something special to do specifically for his Bday while we are there. Do you have anything planned?

I haven't planned much for the birthday, yet. I do plan on getting her a birthday button, and definitely making that one of our "park" days. I thought I would let her choose a restaurant for dinner (she'll be 10 - so I'm not sure how interested she'll be in character meals) that night and have some kind of special dessert set up.

Early June for us each year unless the kids' spring break hits on a week other than Easter. It is not always a given.

Thsi year we'll be there early June. Woudl go even sooner, but i ahve to wait until dance recitals are over.

I think early June is fine, by end of June it gets busier.

Oh, and we'll be there whiel Gay Days is going on. You can go to their website and they already ahve their schedule up. Just avoid the parks on the days it si on their schedule to avoid the crowds.

Lenshanem, I was excited to be going a bit earlier this summer to avoid crowds, then I read about "gay days." I know that any special event brings hordes of people. How many days are actually busy? I think it's just a weekend. Is it just the MK that's crowded? We'll be there over a week this trip, and we don't do the parks constantly by any means, but my AP is expiring and I was SO hoping to enjoy some "quiet times" at the parks... We were there at Thanksgiving and it was a madhouse! Please advise...

Lenshanem, I reread your post and went to the Gay Days Website. Looks like festivities from June 3rd thru 6th. Thursday is AK, Friday MGM, Saturday MK and Sunday Epcot. There are also lots of related events at Pleasure Island and some of the Lake Buena Vista Hotels.

The site says this event can bring 150,000 peeople. That sounds like a lot! Those 4 days may require the "just go to the parks at night" plan!

Go to different parks than planned and you should have no problems. We did MK on the Sunday planned for Epcot and it was not bad. There usually are activities planned at one of the water parks during that week and some at Universal. It is a good idea to check out the web site to work around the crowds with your itenerary.

colleen, I think we'll be OK as long as we avoid the their schedule.
It appears they have days at Universal planned, too. Quite a week they have got fixed up!

I also forgot to mention the possibilty of Star Wars weekend going on. We hit it last summer.
If anyone wants any thoughst or tips on that I'll be happy to provide. :)

We have gone for the last 6 or 7 years the first week of June. It starts getting busy usually when we check out on the 5th. 6th, etc.....Do the early mornings/nights and utilize the pools in the afternoon and you will be fine.

What's Star Wars weekend? Sounds like a big convention of fans... My hubby will be in heaven! I'll get a "straight but not narrow" Tshirt and he can wear one of his old "Star Wars" ones from his teen years (if they fit) and we'll be set! Sounds like things will he really busy all week... We may just sit by the pool at the Lodge. :)

Colleen, Star Wars runs for about a month and a half i beleive starting in May typically?
It si on Friday, Sat and sunday at MGM.

Heres's soem info from last year -

Cool thing? Getting there early and seeing the storm troppers on the top of the MGM gate "patroling". You also hear "cruisers" flying overhead.

Bad thing? If you wnat an autogargh you ahve to get there before they open gates and split your party up running like mad idiots to the different taberls to get an arm band for latter. No one reall tells you this. We saw lots of disappointed kids later that day trying to walk up to get an autogargh. Must ahve an armband and they go fast.............

Disney4Fun,
Just wanted to let you know we will be at SSR the same time as you June 6- june 17...I'm sure we'll cross paths because my 4 year old son talks to any kids he thinks are even close to his age!
