We are planning a trip for the week of Jan 6-13th.. Very disappointed to hear that Splash Mountain will be closed and possibly Rockn roller coaster. However, my question is, what will the crowds be like during that time? I read that the marathon will be on Sunday the 7th. does this have a big affect on the crowds? I also read that the 7th will be the last day for the Osborne lights at MGM so we will plan to visit MGM on that day.

Hi KatinHat! My best friend and I are going to be there the same week you are! I've read a few posts that mention crowds in parks are still pretty light even with the marathon going on. However, traffic can get pretty hairy in the mornings until about 1:00 p.m. The marathon starts and ends at Epcot, so just be sure to avoid that park on the day of the marathon (Sunday, January 7).

I'm sure there's more or better info out there. . .can anyone else help?

:welcome: The times we have been in January were pretty slow. It has been a few years tho. See my sig line :)

Thank you so much for the info.. I am so excited I just cant wait. We had a trip planned for November2005 (after Thanksgiving) but we had to cancel due to Hurricane Katrina (from New Orleans). Now we are finally going to take that trip .. I wanted to be there for the Christmas decorations but my sister couldnt go at that time.. so we will be there in January My boys (6,3) are so excited. Thanks again.. KatInHat

We were there from Jan 7th-17th this year. Crowds were very manageable. I don't recall waiting in lines longer than 5-10 minutes for anything. Traffic on marathon morning is a bit of a mess, but if you follow the PP's suggestion of avoiding EPCOT, you should do just fine.

The park Christmas decorations were up for the first several days of the trip. I'd be surprised if they are all down when you arrive. :)
