Crowds in early May?

I'm planning a trip to to Disney 5/3/05 to 5/9/05, and was wondering what to expect. How long will the lines be? Will anything be closed? Will the water parks be open? Any discount codes yet? Also, I was wondering if MEARS was the best way to get from the airport to the hotel, (POR)?.

I think the lines are relatively short that time of year. A lot of people take towncars to and from the airport. Welcome to the boards!

I've never toured in early May but I understand the crowds are quite manageable then.

We'll be there 5/1 - 5/6; crowds are manageable. We've been going this time of year since 1999. You'll get some responses from people about the 50th anniversary of Disneyland (5/5) inflating the crowds, but this is not Disneyland! We'll get to see the Grass Roots and The Turtles at the Flower Power Concert /Epcot!! Still don't know who will be playing on 5/5. Enjoy yourselves, weather is perfect this time of year, and be sure to get over to Epcot for the Flower Festival!!

We've been to WDW in early May and it is a WONDERFUL time to go. The wait times are minimal, the weather is nice, and the Flower and Garden Festival in Epcot is gorgeous. Enjoy!!

We have visited in May three times in the last five years--the crowds were very managable.

We had always gone in the summer during previous trips. When deciding to go to WDW after the first half of our honeymoon in the Caribbean, we were going to be there the 2nd week in May. We loved everything about our May trip-the weather was perfect, warm days, comfortable nights, the crowds were hardly crowds and during busier times like parades and fireworks they were definitely manageable. Still had all the scheduled shows and parades.The hours were still pretty good, parks usually closing around 9pm. This left plenty of time for us to do something else after like shopping at DD or Pleasure Island. We said it over and over again while there in May 2004 and are still saying it now, we will definitely go back to WDW in May.

I'm glad to hear the 5/5 crowds shouldn't be that big a deal.

I'm getting more and more fired up every day! We were originally planning to go this past September, but we had to change our plans. But time has flown by.

So instead of going right after school starts, we're going right before school gets out. One of the advantages of home school!

Sounds good to me We'll be there the first week of May...we've been there in 2002 and 2003 around this time and found the crowds quite manageable but the weather has been pretty fickle.

In 2003 it was rather warm, but not real hot yet. But, in 2002 there was a heatwave in the area and it was in the 90s everyday, really hot but not humid, it was rather unusual for FL (I know FL is hot but humidity is almost always present during the hotter times). There wasn't a drop of rain then either, but in 2003 we did have some rain.

But, both years the crowds weren't bad at all.

We've been in arly May 5 or 6 times now.
"manageable" is the operative word for crowds. Don't expect empty parks or many walk-on rides. BUT don't expect huge waits either. Cosidering that the weather is fine that time of year, it's a pretty good time to go.
