crowds in august?

hi all
our next trip will have to be in august (due to youngest starting secondary school) what will the crowds be like the last 2 weeks of aug? also i know it will more than likely rain but does this spoill your trips? we have only been in october and november so we don't know what to expect

I cannot speak for August but have just had a holiday there in July (we usually go in February). I was expecting big crowds/lines/lots of rain.

We hardly got any rain at all, one heavy downpour and a couple of light showers. The rain was a welcome relief to the heat and certainly didn't spoil anything.

To beat the crowds we got to the parks early (half an hour before opening), got all the rides done within a couple of hours before the crowds started coming in at 11 ish. Universal/IoA opened up 20 minutes before time which was even better.

I would imagine August is slightly less busy than July. American kids go back earlier than ours.

it usually goes a bit quieter towards the end of august as the usa kids go back to school.
we have been around this time and apart from the odd shower the weather has been hot hot hot!

I'm out here at the moment (arrived on the 3rd, leave on the 17th) and have been pleasantly surprised by how quiet the parks are. This is our sixth time in August and we've never found the crowds unmanageable. You must get to the parks early, and you should make good use of Fastpass to avoid the longest lines for the rides and attractions. In the few days we've been here we've not spent more than a few minutes queueing for anything (with the exception of sitting waiting for Fantasmic to start). We were also in orlando for Easter this year. Never again! The crowds were just terrible even if the weather was more pleasant. So for us it will be August from now on

We don't get too much disruption from the weather. We tend to go back to our villa for an afternoon/early evening break, before heading back out to the parks. This way we often miss the worst of the rain and the afternoon heat. Again, thes best advice is to make sure you get to the parks just before they open to get the best of the weather. If you're not 'early-bird' type holiday-makers perhaps August isn't the best time of year to visit Orlando?

We really like August Eve, on the basis of being confined to school holidays that is.

The rain in the afternoon often comes as a welcome relief but I would say doing long full days at the parks with no break will be exhausting due to the heat & humidity.

thank you all for your replies it's good to know it's not too bad in august we are kinda stuck with this time frame because eldest will be 15 and i'm sure he'll be doing some sort of exams and the youngest will be just starting big school so i don't really want to pull him out of school,so now all i have to do is pick where to stay and that is going to be difficult because the boys and dh to be don't want to stay on disney any more and i also need to pick which venue to have our wedding (dh don't really want a disney wedding)it's going to be hard any suggestions guy's

We've also been in August and we LOVE it!

Weather

Can be very hot so get to the parks early, take an afternoon break at Villa, hotel or waterpark to cool down and go back later in the day.

There can be some heavy afternoon downpoors but they don't ususually last too long and quickly dry out.

Crowds

Can get busy so again, get to the parks early.

Also, as August is "peak" period, you'll find the parks open early, close late and additional attractions / parades laid on and few if any rehabs.

Plus - you can take an evening swim!

Have you done a search on google for the wedding venue, there seems to be lots of beautiful places to choose from

You'll be there when we get there (we arrive on the 18th!).

We usually go in this time fram, and besides the heat, I shouldn't worry about the weather. You will get some rain, so just take an umbrell or rain gear of some sort, then stow it when the rain stops.

As for crowd size, I echo what the others have said. Remember, kids in the southern (and western?) United States are going back to school next week, for the most part, so that means most family holidays from that part of the country will be finished. Here in Virginia, the kids go back to school in the first week of September (hence our August trip).
