Crowds in August?

Could you tell me how busy it generally is and how difficult it is to book a room in a Disney hotel?

I've never been in August so can't help with the booking part, but UK schools will be on summer holidays. I think (but am not certain) that the French and Italian schools are off then aswell, so I would imagine it would be pretty busy.

I went midweek with my daughter (aged 6) for 1 1/2 days (2 nights) about the middle of August 2008. I only booked a room in Santa Fe about 4 weeks before we went. We didn't try to do any rides before 8pm as we wanted to see all the shows during the day. There were massive crowds, but we had expected this & as we go so often we didn't want to stand in queues, got everything done we wanted to do & had a brilliant time. We had never been in August before (usually go during termtime) so it was great to experience the park open late & to see the fireworks.

We've been 3 times in August and even though it's very busy somehow the parks can take the crowds much better in the summer.

We always stay at the Explorers so can't help with the Disney hotel situation but we've never had a problem with rides. If you're staying at a Disney hotel use EMH then just use fastpass ~ I don't like queueing for rides and very rarely queue for longer than 20 minutes, even in August, but still get to ride everything I want, including multiple rides on BTM in the dark whilst Fantillusion is on.

I think the crowds are a very small price to pay for the later opening hours and fireworks which aren't on most of the year.

Hi,

We've been for a few summers (August) now - last year was the quietest ever - the year before heaving! As pointed out earlier, every-one is off in August including Spansih, French, English although given the exchange rate perhaps not so many of the latter!

That said it hasn't ever been full unlike at Xmas this year but it is busy and expect to queue for the rides and either use EMH if at a Disney hotel or perhaps buy extra Fastpass tickets off ebay....

Only you can judge whether the crowds are acceptable....it hasn't put me off!

Rgds
