We haven't been to WDW in Jan in forever. What can we expect for crowds MLK week? We usually go first week in Dec or end of October.
Thanks,
Gretchen

Expect it to be busy Saturday through Monday due to the holiday, and then more or less return to normal after that. Seems it's too close to Christmas for many to seriously consider pulling kids out of school for the week.

Since it is the slow season, the MK parades and fireworks sometimes only go on Saturday night, making MK really crowded. Try to avoid this if you can.

We will be there, and are planning EE on Saturday in MGM, then back to our resort for a "resort" night - pool (if warm enough), arcade, shopping, animals (AKL), and dinner at Boma.

Sunday we're going to try AK, and Sunday night the kids will go to Simba's Cubhouse (they love hanging with kids from all over the place!).

Monday we're going to try DisneyQuest or Blizzard Beach (if we get a warm day). Then Epcot in the evening, as the crowds will start to calm down.

We will be there two days before and two days after MLK weekend, so we'll get all the parks then. Yeah, we're pulling the kids out of school. Naughty parents!

Went January 2003 during MLK week and it was busy on the weekend, but we walked onto many rides after Monday.

We're also going in January for the first time EVER (can't wait). What is MLK weekend? where does it take place and what exactly are the dates? Is this something someone should try to avoid? Sorry for so many questions..

Harambe,
I noticed you said you were going to Blizzard Beach. I would love to take my kids to a waterpark. Has it ever been warm enough in January? Is Typhoon Lagoon open also at that time? We're from Minnesota so in January a 50 degree day would seem like a heat wave. Do they close if it's below a certain temp? TIA for any info.

We went in Jan. a few years back and had incredible weather every day for a week! However, apparently last year there was a cold snap and some folks wore hats and gloves! So your best bet is to watch the weather the week you're there and head to a water park if there is a warm day. I believe Typhoon Lagoon will be closed for rehab!

We're from the Boston area, and also swim when others think it's too cold! LOL! We usually enjoy our resort pool, so no need to go to a water park.

BTW - MLK is Martin Luther King Day. It falls on Jan. 19th this year.
