Crowds for January 9-11???

According to Birnbaum's new guide, there will be some type of marathon at WDW from January 9-11, 2004. The book states that there will be something like 15,000 participants. Does anybody know what this does as far as crowds at the parks? Will it be too crowded during this time? We were planning on going to WDW from January 10-17, 2004, but we will change to the following week if it will be too crowded during this time. As always, thanks!

We were there last year during the marathon (will be this year, too). Crowds were pretty non-existent for the weekend. The only thing we noticed was that transportation was slow on Sunday, the day of the Marathon. It took about 45 minutes to get from ASMO to MK--the busses could only go as far as TTC and then we took the monorail over. The race ran thru part of MK, and it was awesome to see the people lined up on Main Street to watch the runners.

We had a great time last year. We were able to walk onto most of the rides. I think our longest wait was about 10 minutes.

it is a great time of the year to go. we have been the last couple of years during marathon weekend, and this year we are partcipating. the only thing we have ever noticed is: one year, our hotel was out of hot water for our morning shower. all the runners had gotten up early and used up all the hot water! a cold shower gets you woken up quickly!! also, we had a PS for Cindy's breakfast on Sunday, marathon day, and because of how the transportation was, and how MK was roped off for runners, we had a heck of a time trying to reach the castle. but other than that, the crowds have been minimal. just be sure to pack for all sorts of weather. it has been pretty cool the last couple trips for us. i even bring little gloves for those evenings when we are out.
