Crowds at Fantasmic?

Does anyone have any clue how crowded Fantasmic is now that they are down to 2 shows a week? Is the dinner package becoming a necessity? If you don't do the dinner package, how early do you need to show up?

We were at Fantasmic on the 9th of February - the theatre was FULL! We did the dining package (at Brown Derby - yummy!) and were directed to be at the theatre no later than 6:15. The crowd of people streaming there was incredible...I'd suggest you be there at least 45 minutes early, unless you don't really care where you sit. It seemed that they filled from the center out so the extreme sides were the last filled; but they were full!

I'm not sure the dinner package is a must, but getting in line at least 45 min prior IS! I was down in January and got to the gate 35 minutes prior to the show and they roped it off and told us they were full. Now, I figured that I wouldn't get a great seat, but full at 35 min out? I remember walking in 5 minutes prior and still being able to get in when they had it every night...

I was pretty disapointed, but hey, the recommendations are out there for a reason, right?!

I've heard crowds have been terrible; in fact crowds have been so bad they've increased Fantasmic to at least 3 nights per week instead of 2.

I read an article somewhere (maybe MousePlanet... not sure) that crowds have been awful and chaotic. As a PP said- they have increased the number of shows- but Idk if adding one show is going to help.

Some of my friends just got there last week and it's really terrible. You must be going early to got a good seats.

Thanks for the replies! I had a feeling the limited shows would cause some crowding issues. Hopefully Disney will make a change due to "guest demand".

I tried to book a Fantasmic dinner package for May 20 and the latest dinner slot available was 4:15pm (the show starts at 9). I asked why there were no later times available and the CM told me it was to keep from disrupting the normal dining hours. Give me a break. Needless to say, we didn't book and will probably miss the show this time.
