I'm having some anxiety right now! Our flight leaves out of SNA at 8am on Saturday morning after the 24 hour event... The hotel we are staying is right across the street from DL. How bad will the traffic be at 6am when DL closes after the 24 hour event? Anyone who was there last year at that time? I was thinking about leaving the hotel at about 5:45am... Any suggestions?

Are you going to the 24 hour event yourself? Do you have a rental car, or taking a shuttle/taxi?

The traffic nightmare is usually just the night before. If you are that worried about it then leave at 5:30 and beat the crowds! I think you will be ok though. The traffic issues are usually caused by trying to get into or occasionally out of the parking areas. Unless there is any issues on the freeways you will have plenty of time.

I will be using a shuttle or taxi service.. There are 4 of us..
With 4 of you I would definitely use a taxi since it will probably come out cheaper per person and will be more convenient than using the shuttle. It will only take 20 minutes for you to get to SNA and I would imagine most of the traffic would be getting out of parking garages which shouldn't effect you. I have a feeling that most people will leave after the main shows are finished and very few probably make it the whole 24hrs.

I generally think that if you're going to be leaving for SNA, as long as you leave before 6:00 am, you'll probably be okay (in terms of crowds from the 24-hour event). My sense is that if guests have made it to 5:30 am, they're going to stick it out to 6:00 am to see the "goodbye" show or they are in a line for one last attraction. I do think there is a slight uptick in crowds existing the parking structure and other lots right after 6:00 am, but I don't think it's going to be bad enough to cause grid lock. So, if you're worried, leave the DLR area before 6:00 am and you should be fine.

You might find a UBER or Lyft ride would work well. If you are real crafty, have them pickup at DLR, drive to hotel, pick-up luggage and then head to the airport.... or have them waiting at hotel and ready to go.
