We are planning to go back to WDW in May and I was wondering if anyone had any info on what the crowds would be like during this time. It is going to be May 5-10 and I basicly am wondering what if any effect the happiest celebration is going to have on the people coming down. Any info would be great thanks.

I really don't think it's going to be a huge difference. This celebration is 18 months long, there's no rush to be there on May 5th. I've gone in early May the past 5 years, it's not a very crowded time to start with.

Playing the devil's advocate I don't think it's going to be peak season crowded. However, I do think it will be a bit busier than a normal early May would be. I think I would plan that way, as early May is typically known to be pretty quiet. That way you plan for the worst and it can only get better.

The other thing is there may wind up being press events and such right around the 5th (may actually fall a few days earlier). Last time these imposed earlier park hours here and there and scattered rides and/or park areas being closed off to general guests.

However, we are planning a trip in almost the same time frame, and we are solely going based on the fact of the new attractions/rides. We are so excited and don't want to wait to see them. I'm sure we aren't the only ones with that intent. (We normally wouldn't go in May or summer).

I just saw a commercial on TV for WDW. No mention was made of anything starting May 5. They just said "come to WDW this year". Alot of schools are not out until later in May or June, I don't think alot of families will pull kids out of school in early May just for the start of an 18 month celebration. It may be a little more crowded than prior years, but not huge.

Thanks for the thoughts and replies, I haven't ever been in May and I needed to know what it typically would be like. We aren't exactly going down just for the happiest celebration, it is my mom's bday and also mothers day, and it just so happened that May 5th falls on a Thursday and since my mom has every Thursday off we decided to leave Wednesday afternoon and begin our vacation on Thursday. I am excited to see some of the new attractions and my son can't wait to see the extreme stunt show. Thanks for the replies. We are going no matter what but I just wanted to see what everyone thought.
Thanks
Kim

We usually go the last week in May every year. It is not overly crowed but it is crowded. And is usually very hot this time of year. Waits can be very long on popular attractions and heat can be oppressing. Just relax and take you time and have a great time. ::MickeyMo
