I guess the heat as well as the rain keeps most locals away. We were there on Monday and Tuesday 8/23 and 8/24 and the longest wait we saw was 40 minutes. That was Space. Everything else was around 25. If it hadn't been 100 degrees, I would have sworn it was January from the lack of crowds.
We checked into the DH on Monday at around 11:00 am. We then lounged around the pool, but as the heat climbed, we started to melt, and by 3:00, we were ready for showers and some toe's up time. I'm sure most of you know that check-in is after 3:00 and that rooms aren't guaranteed until 4:30, but I didn't know this. They tell you to keep checking, and so I did every half hour. At 4:00, the third time I checked, I even asked if they had a different room type as between the heat and my middle-agedness, I was about to spontaneously combust. Since we already had a room in the Dreams Tower, I didn't want to give that up and was very pleasant and grateful as I dripped all over the check-in desk. Vera looked very thoroughly for another room in the Dreams Tower, but couldn't find anything. We parted ways, smiling, and I came back to harass them again at 4:30. At this time, the room still wasn't ready, so Vera went over to the Dreams Tower, in person, to see what the hold-up was. What service! And even better, she got us our room. Which was a fabulous renovated room. About an hour later, after we had cooled and showered, we got a knock at the door. The front desk sent six chocolate-dipped rice krispie mickeys, freshly made and still a bit warm! And six ice cold glasses of milk. I was blown away, especially since they didn't do anything wrong. Upon checking out the next day, we left a rave review for Vera and her front desk team.
Okay - trip report! We started Tuesday at 7:00 with MM. Went right on Peter Pan, Mr. Toad, Teacups and Matterhorn. At the stroke of 8:00, we got Space FP's and rode Space, Buzz, then ate a quick breakfast. We digested on Pirates, as is our habit, then rode TMRR. Indianna FPs, then on to the Jungle Cruise, Splash, and Splash FP's. Then it was on to Toon Town where we rode RR, the roller coaster, and did a little shopping while DH napped in the shade. By now it's 10:30, and since we had to cut our trip short by a day, DD14 and I headed back to the hotel to check out. My only complaint is that the monorail was out each time we wanted to take it into/out of the park.
So we hightailed it back to the park where we caught up with DD9 and DH and rode HM, then Splash. TMRR FP's, got lunch, yummy fried chicken at the Plaza Inn, Tiki room and Dole Whips, then over to California Adventure. GRR, Maliboomer, MM, and then the Aladin show (I highly recommend this show, even my Grinchly DH was impressed). Ice creams, more Maliboomer and MM, GRR (2 times in the Single rider line) then back to DL. There we used all our FP's, then ate a quick dinner at LaBrea and headed home by 8:30.
Not bad for a one day trip!
