Does anyone have a guess as to how the new roller coaster opening will affect the crowd levels in the rest of the park for May of 2019? We are planning a trip but are not HP fans at all. If the new coaster opens before May will the entire park be significantly busier or will it be mostly confined to the HP areas? I know this is difficult to say for sure but we are trying to figure out from past experience what we migtht expect to encounter.

First off, I don't think you have to be HP fans to enjoy that area. The rides are great and the shops are fun, the food offerings are also good. If you like to look at details, there are tons of details to look at. I am not that much of a HP fan, but I can recognize when an area is done esp well, and I can spend a couple of hours there easily and am really looking forward to the new coaster.

As for how the new opening will affect crowds, the simple answer is, nobody knows.

If you are going during a holiday period or anytime kids are out of school. Expect it to be busy.

As for the new coaster opening, I don't see it bringing that many new people into the parks. But I am hoping it will spread the people out a bit more. I doubt the ride will open with Express pass, so that should hold people out of the rest of the park for a while.

Everyone runs to do the new rides
And many times it helps lower other park rides

Most go in with the thought try it at least once

If you're looking at an April/May trip you're probably going to be fine. They haven't announced an opening for it but believe when first announced they said something about Fall 2019. so probably won't be open until after summer. I imagine it will probably draw in a bit of new people though. On it's own it would probably see an uptick but not a huge amount but with Star Wars opening at Disney that is expected to bring a lot of people to the area and could see many taking an extra day to check out the new coaster at Universal as well.
