crowd level / EMH hours

I'm planning a trip during a busy time in October and have a few questions--
Do you rely most on crowd level calendars from touringplans.com, easywdw.com, or some other resource I don't know about yet?
Can we disregard crowd level recommendations when we are there for EMH? My plan was to take advantage of EMH and then hop to a park with a lower crowd level (using FP there) when the first one filled up--would that work?
Do both am and pm EMH still offer a significant reduction in wait times?
I haven't been to Disney for several years, so I'm hoping more recent visitors can give me some advice! Thanks!

2. Yes, that's a smart plan if you have park hoppers.

3. AM - definitely. PM - sometimes.

I like easywdw.com.

We used to always do early EMH, but found that sometimes the park actually seemed busier at 8am on an EMH day than at 9am on a normal day, mainly at HS. Maybe that was because the HS early EMH was on a weekend, or because everyone there at 8am was there solely to race to TSMM like everyone else. But when we had park hoppers we would often do the same thing: hit early EMH then split to a different park.

Evening EMH at Epcot and HS were always busy, we stopped going, lines still long. Evening EMH at MK is great if the park is open after midnight. We used to love evening EMH at AK before they got rid of it, just for the atmosphere.
