Why is the www.touringplans.com crowd index different than the crowd blog on the same website?

For instance, the crowd blog says my dates will be 7's and 8's! On the same website, the other chart says my dates will be 3's! Just wondering, which is "official?" If the crowd blog is official, why hasn't the other index been updated? Not quite sure how this works exactly.

Just wondering...thanks!!

I didn't have time to read it all, but it looks like the crowd blog is updated with more recent information, and they modify the crowd index on the blog. So, I would go with the blog.

As to which is "official," neither. Neither is by Disney, and they're both predictions.

We are having the same problem (our week is May 21-27). I emailed the crowd blogger and he responded that his were the most up-to-date figures based on hotel occupancies, Magic Kingdom hours of operation for that week, etc. I am sooooo disappointed. He predicts waits of 85 minutes or longer at Magic Kingdom when we were expecting half that.

But as someone pointed out on a different thread, higher hotel occupancies doesn't necessarily mean more guests (if he's talking about Disney resorts only). It could just be that people who would go to WDW anyway are more likely to stay in the resorts with the new MYW plan. Just a thought. So, where is this crowd blog?

Hmmm...

I realize that none of the predictions are "official" Disney stats, that's not what I was asking. I was just wondering what the real (or "official"), predictions are from that particular website - because they list two different indexes there.

Guess there's no way to tell for sure...I guess I am holding out hope of it not being toooo crowded, since they still list 3's on the "Unofficial Guide Updates" section.

As the poster above said, the blog is more updated based on other more current statistics. I guess they give you the index for long-range planning and you can use the blog to get a better idea the closer it gets to the date.

I still find it inaccurate---memorial day weekend---7, 6, 5?????

I don't know if you're asking if that's Memorial Day or it it says it's Memorial Day, but that holiday is always the last Monday in May.

The lower numbers are the standard projections, and the "crowd blog" is a new way of calculating it that UG is working on based on different factors. Search for posts by LenTesta for some good threads about this topic.

Those are the numbers for memorial day--take a look at tourguides charts------you will see what I am referring to.

I'm not sure I'd trust the graph giving the expected crowds. I was there from 5/1-5/4/05 and thought the crowds were VERY manageable even though these dates were 4's-6's. We hardly had to wait for any ride that we wanted. We did get to the parks when they opened, but still saw everything we wanted without using Fast Pass and did not wait in long lines at all. The only Fast Pass we used was for Soarin' and we figured if we had used the Stand-by line, it would have been quicker. Also, the hotel graph shows the Boardwalk was "sold out" on Expedia, but I know we did not have many people staying around us(and we were right near the elevator) and the pool was hardly crowded at all so I know there were plenty of rooms still available.

I can't find the crowd blog on the site. Is it only available to subscribers?

It is available to everyone. Go to touringplans.com Go down to the Sneak Peeks. The crowd blog link should be right there.
