I got directions from MapQuest to travel from Fort Wilderness to the Crossroads Shopping Center. Just as I expected, the directions send you east on Vista Blvd, to 535. Pretty straight forward from looking at the map. BUT, reverse directions send you to I-4 and back through the main toll plaza. Does anyone know why you couldn't just reverse your path to Vista Blvd instead of making a 5 mile trip a 9 mile one?

Thanks, Barbara

Don't get on I-4!

FW to Crossroads:
  1. Take a left out of FW onto Vista Boulevard
  2. Take a right on 535
  3. Crossroads will be on your left

That's the best route, another way to return would be straight out of crossroads onto Hotel Resorts Blvd, bear left as it merges onto Buena Vista in front of DD, right on Bonnet Creek (where the OKW lighthouse is), left on Vista, right into FT. W. More lights that way. I don't know why in the world they would take you onto I-4!

Okay... let's put on the parking brake first. :)

Are you going to Crossroads to do Grocery shopping? If so, $$BIG$$ MI$TAKE... lol...

This is what you need to do.

When exiting Fort Wilderness, take a LEFT. You are now on Vista Blvd. (Not to be confused with Buena Vista Drive) Continue down that road until it dead ends. You'll pass through the Distribution Center area, as well as Buena Vista Construction Company. At the end of the road, you will want to take a RIGHT. You are now on 535. But not the 535 you are thinking of.

Drive carefully on this road... there is a VERY sharp corner, and they are doing some major construction. Obey all posted speed limits, and drive with caution. You'll feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, and then all of a sudden you'll reach Tourist Trap Central. There will be the Ale House (great restaurant & sports bar) and a 7-11 on your left, and a Texaco, Subway, and Sports Shoe place on your right.

If you go straight, you will go onto the Palm Parkway... there's a Pizza Hut, Olive Garden, and a bunch of other things on this road.

If you take a RIGHT... it will continue as the 535 that everyone knows. Crossroads will be on the LEFT. There's a bunch of restaurants in there. If you continue on, you'll run into I4, as well as some outlets, and a Walgreens Pharmacy.

If you take a LEFT... you will run into two shopping plazas on the right. The first has a few restaurants. The second has a brand new Winn Dixie. This is where I do my grocery shopping. Good prices, and never any lines. There's also an ABC alcohol store there, and a Walgreens Pharmacy.

To get back to Fort Wilderness... go back to that road that the Ale House is on... that is 535 still. Follow the road... once again, be careful about the construction. Take a LEFT onto Vista Blvd... it'll be marked at a stoplight intersection.

Thanks all! the Winn Dixie was what I was looking for. Just wasn't sure if there were one way roads or what that would send me all the way to I-4 to get back again. I appreciate the replies as well as the fine tuning of the directions!

The Publix is located at the far end of 535, at the 192 intersection. Quite a ways down from Crossroads. That particular one is also slightly touristy.

Hi,

The WinnDixie is a great store. Prices are lower than Goodings at the Crossroads.

I have shpped at Goodings, Publix down on 535 and I like the WD the best.

Easiest to get at too.

Crossroads is a BIG busy parking lot.

You can apply online for their shopper card before you go.

herc.

Tyler is completely right-believe him! Your best bet is to go the way Tyler says and avoid the Downtown Disney traffic. The curve he is talking about IS really bad. Be careful.
There is another Publix in the opposite direction also. Turn left onto Apopka-Vineland Rd (535) and go past the Winn Dixie. It's about 10 minutes up the road. Turn right onto Sand Lake Rd. This is a really nice area called Dr. Phillips. There will be a shopping complex on your left and right. There is a Goodings on the left (same as crossroads-both expensive!) and a Publix on the right. There is also a Panera bread near Publix and an Einstein Bagels near Goodings if you are tired of the food in LBV. Also, if you are looking for a non-touristy place to hang out, try the Ale House on 535. It's where all the locals go and the food is really good!

OK folks am I having a senior moment? I too go to the Winn Dixie via the "other" part of 535 and Vista but I swear there are two more turns in there. Isn't there a four way stop where you take a right and go by the credit union and child care place before the dead end. I take a left at that dead end and then a right onto 535.

You could very well do that... but you don't need to. The side turn road is called Live Oak, and it connects with Buena Vista Drive. Both Vista Blvd and Buena Vista Drive connect to 535 in almost the same place.

Thanks for answering, Chip 'n Dale. Isn't Vista going north marked at that four way stop sign as Cast Members only or something to that effect? Can I just ignore that?:o
