Hi all
Anytime I have a question - I know the dis will have someone who can help..

I am so not a crafty person - but I am pregnant and seem obsessed with the idea of making some kind of project for the nursery....

I have been inspired from nursery photos on the community board, mom's to be thread; some of the women's creations are adorable...

anyway so I went to craft store website and I'm wondering if I can learn how to cross stitch - I don't know how to sew or knit or crochet or any of that...

how difficult is cross -stitch - I mean can a person with zero craft experience figure this out and complete a project that is presentable to display?

TIA

Cross stitch is fairly easy- I would suggest choosing one that only uses the basic cross stitch and backstich- I find that the french knot is hard even after doing a number of projects. The big thing is to take you time so it is done evenly. I would suggest trying something small to start- no larger than a 5 by 7 frame size.

Cross stitch is a wonderful relaxing hobby. As Rebecca says start with something small. If you do end up with a project that requires french knots and you can't figure them out, you can use small black seed beads instead of the knots. Cross stitch is easy to teach yourself to do. Enjoy!!!!!

I taught myself how to do cross stitch. The first few I made were the pre-stamped ones. After I felt more confident, I bought a counted cross stitch to try. I did ok, better than I thought I would do and now I cross stitch all the time. Start small and take your time. You will do fine!!

Make sure you get a STAMPED CROSS STITCH, don't start w/counted cross stitch, once you feel confident with basic cross then try the counted, if you start with harder one first you might just get frustrated and forget the whole thing.

Stamped very easy, get a very basic one first, just big XXX's first you do one side of X's then return do the other leg of X. Very easy, counted, same thing except you have to really count your stitches, and there is no design stamped so you have to know where to start it, you'll get there.

Great thread. I was wondering if its something that I could try as well, never done it. Great posts guys, thanks for the help.

Ok, I am far from crafty but the one thing I can do is counted cross stitch. The stamped ones I have never done and see no reason to do it. Buy a small counted cross stitch kit that has everything you need. Then once you have finished a couple of those work your way up. It is so easy.

:thumbsup2 I am so, so, not crafty and counted cross stitch is very easy, and yields a much better project than the stamped ones.
