Crocs vs. flip flops

Am I the only one who can wear nothing but sneakers when walking the parks? I've tried Birkenstocks, Crocs, flip flops, they all end up rubbing somewhere on my foot. Nothing but Nikes for me. :confused3

I love my Crocs but there is no way I could wear them around WDW all day. I need the ankle support of my tennis shoes.

I took tennis shoes last year and they were the only shoes to give me a blister! :confused3 They were well worn in, and I figured they'd be comfy...but a mix of Crocs and flip flops worked best for me.

One word of advice - be careful wearing Crocs when it rains! I had some near misses of falling in wet Crocs because they got so slippery.

I wore reeboks the first year and I was miserable in them. They were well broken in and everything but they just didn't give the proper support. Now I alternate between Crocs and my Keen sandals. Next time I'll have my Croc Flops and I may see how they work out.

I guess I'm in the minority....

I want to be the new poster child (umm... older child) for Crocs.

We go to The World every year for at least 2 weeks. I have tried everything! Comfy, broken in sneakers.. new sneakers - firm and supporting, birkenstocks and reefs.. I've gotten blisters every time, and last year they were pretty bad. I can't tell you how many rolls of moleskin I went through. We do a lot of walking, and I don't usually slow down, not even when I have the blisters. I cover them up and keep going.

This year I discovered Crocs! I read up on them and made sure to get the right sizing. After trying them on I put them back on the shelf.. SOOOO UGLY! (sorry to anyone who might think otherwise). Then my DD wanted a pair, so I took her to get a pair. We chose the least offensive color, purple, and for some odd reason, she loved them. She's 9, what does she know?
I gave in and bought a pair just in case. I wore them around the house and could tell immediatly how comfy they were.. And even though I thought they were pretty big and would fall off my feet, they didn't.
Crocs are made to fit big. There should be at least a 1/2 inch in front of your foot, and the same behind it. When you step down your foot is supposed to center on the bottom, and the sides and front should not be touching your foot. That's why there's no blisters.. there's hardly any friction.

I swallowed my pride and wore the ugly things... and started to actually like they way they looked! You know when you meet someone, and they're not really attractive looking, then you get to know them and they're a great person and suddenly you think... hey, he's really goodlooking (or she's really pretty). It's kinda like that. I liked them, I REALLY liked them!

I got comments on them all over Disney! The cm at Figment tried to buy them off me!

In closing.. this year it was 17 days... I didn't get any blisters! I couldn't believe it! I HIGHLY recommend these things! They work!

side note: they do get a bit slippery in the rain, I put the heel strap down then to help. Otherwise I wear it up and my feet still don't come out of the shoe.

YES! That's exactly what Crocs are like! :thumbsup2

Another input, there are INCREDIBLY comfy "walking" sandals at sporting good places like Academy and Sports Authority. The advantage over flip flops is the arch support. Find some that are really soft, they're like walking on pillows! Wouldn't travel w/o them! Disadvatage is they're expensive-$50-$100.

I wore cheap flip flops one whole day last year at Epcot and my feet never bothered me at all. I switched off between those Nikes and Keens. This year I did buy the Croc flip flops and will be trying those out at the parks!

For those of you who say the Crocs are slippery, is that the flip flops too? I thought these things were NOT supposed to be?? :confused3

I have to agree... that was a perfect description of the way you end up seeing them... It's love, that's what it is...

and I wear mine the same way, strap up on the top, and never have a problem keeping them on... :thumbsup2

No Crocs for DH and I. We have the Teva flip flips and love them. I have 3 pr and DH has 2. :teeth:

I love my Crocs and will bring them to Disney....however the Croc brand has many different styles to suit different body types and different peoples needs. My mother has a pair and she cannot wear them all day as they do not provide enough support for he (I think that she is just used to wearing shoes with laces and there is no telling her otherwise) My father loves his and wears them everywhere...I may have to buy him another pair soon!!

My husband will not wear the beach style Croc because of their large look so he wears the flipflop style. Both children have 2 pairs of Crocs that they will bring to Disney and no other shoes are necessary. I will bring my beach crocs and my flipflops.... For us they are the must have shoe for long days of walking. BUT...to each his own...what works for me may not work for you....Be sure to try them out before you go so you will be COMFY!!!

It was the DISers here that convinced me to try my first pair and now we have many colours and styles...Thanks fellow DISers...A Proud Croc Owner! :wave2:

When it rained hard at Disney (imagine that.. rainat Disney!..lol)... the water would get into the top holes and make my feet pretty wet. They felt slippery a bit. I never actually slipped though. The nice thing is that I could dry them easily.. and my feet, and they'd be fine. NO smells at all! We took a ride to Cocoa beach and I just walked into the water with them! When we got back to the car, I poured some water over the crocs to wash out the sand, wiped my feet and I was fine.
I also have a pair of Niles. I'm not as comfy wearing those with the strap up so I didn't wear them walking through Disney. I was afraid of friction above my heel (I was careful!).. I did wear them throught the resort (they're red, not too offensive) and to the pool. I don't remember being being uncomfortable or anything when I had wet feet from the pool.. so if I didn't notice.. maybe they weren't slippery as the Beach are.

They aren't supposed to be slippery.. but they seemed like they were to me. I normally take a 7.5 A size small is 6-7 so I had to get a medium which is a 8-9. Maybe because they were biggish they felt like that.. but they sure were comfy. I did take notice that when I stepped down I didn't feel the front or sides of my feet touch the shoe.

Honesty.. it's the first time I had no foot trouble at all walking all that time, 17 days! I was so thrilled. Oh.. sometimes my feet felt tired of course.. but if you're walking for hours and hours.. I'd expect that no matter what. But not a blister.. if you could have seen my feet last year, you'd be amazed too.

This is just what worked for me... but if you have problems too.. overlook the way the shoe looks at first. You'll see how beautiful they are after a few days too!

Word to the wise:

Be careful wearing flip flops. I broke my toe wearing them! I was taking my son to the bathroom and he crossed me. I was headed to the womens he wanted to go to the mens. My foot hit his shoe just the right way and my toe and side of my foot broke. It had to be re-set. Of course leave it to me to do this. I sure it is not common. Now I have to think before I wear them (yes I still wear them) I do not wear them everyday anymore. So, reg crocks for me in sept! :sad2:

I'm sure sneakers would be the best thing, but being out that long in the summer, I can't stand my feet getting hot :confused3

So are the Croc flipflops supposed to be as comfortable as the regular crocs? I think I could at least stand wearing the flipflops, they aren't as ugly (no offense!! :goodvibes )

We ALWAYS wear flip flops in the parks...Reefs and Rainbows, they're the best! I also like wearing my Uggs cause they feel like you are walking on a cloud. We have Crocs but have never worn them in the world, jsut too attached to our flip flops.

I prefer flip flops, as they are lighter on your feet. :thumbsup2

I would rather wear Crocs because I feel like I would walk right out of the flip flops.
