You're joking right?::eek: I don't think criminals care if you're a tourist or not. I must look like a tourist and send up a red flag everyday of the week, as I wear my crocs that often.:lmao:

Orlando stands out because it is one of the biggest tourist destinations in thw world and truly is a melting pot of people. This also bring out the bad people who will take advantage of these people. Standing out is not the best thing to do when your on vacation. You dont want to look like your out of your normal surroundings. I know most people are out of their normal surroundings , but that does not mean that you should go and look the part.

Orlando is not the safest place to be. I trust Disney's security, but it is still quite easy to get pick-pocketed. Saying " I don't think criminals care if you're a tourist or not." is a dangerous misconception. They do care, why else would crime rites be so high? What sets Orlando apart from the rest of the cities in the US?

They say they wear them because "the are comfy". Why do people wear Crocs? I'm guessing Uggs and Crocs must be insanely comfy, because people everywhere are wearing huge slippers boots and lime green plastic sandals instead of good looking comfortable shoes, lol.

(one thing I will say NEVER go to Disney with really old shoes. I went with shoes that were 4 years old and had to go to the Nike ware house the next day because the ball of my foot was throbing so much just be standing. I dont recommend flats either, the arch of my feet were in so much pain after 7 hours. Skate shoes and Nikes are great and I have never had a problem with either.

Yes. Old Crocs can be dangerous...as they say 'slippery when wet'..slipped and crashed twice on those yellow lines outside stores when it was raining.
Not made for walking!  Crocs are a MUST for every trip to WDW for our entire family!! DH and I laugh because when we wake up in the morning after walking a million miles a day @WDW the ONLY thing that doesn't hurt us is our feet because of Crocs! :rotfl:

Well, first off you transposed Tampa and Orlando in your heading, so if people don't go to your source link and just read this chart....Tampa would appear to be higher crime.

BUT....I don't see anywhere on your chart or on the website that shows that people wearing ugly shoes and/or fanny packs are a higher percentange than those wearing.....well, I guess what it is that you wear, lol.

Crime is ALWAYS higher in a large tourist area. And make no mistake Los Angeles is a big tourist area as well. So is New York and San Francisco. Maybe not theme park tourist, but having lived in all those towns, I can assure you that a large portion of the day to day traffic is NOT from locals, it's people visiting.

I personally hate crime stats because it really makes people in the "safer" towns think they're immune or something. I have lived in a lot of places (happens when you grow up in a military family and then marry into another military family, lol). My car was broken into and radio and stuff we'd left in it stolen.....in a town with population less than 10k. I was threatened at gunpoint in a town that had a police department of less than 100 employees, including ALL the staff, not just the officers (in contrast Orlando has several hundred officers plus hundreds of support staff as well). Yet in the major cities that I've lived, including those listed above and some others with populations measured in the 7 figures and had less vandalism, theft or personal threats....in fact, only once and it was a hit and run in a parking lot. Of course, I figure having been a "crime" victim only 3 times in my life is really a good thing! Maybe it's cause I have a no nonsense attitude and I frighten the bad guys, lol. Or maybe my Crocs scare them off.

I mean, besides the CM's, if you were a pick-pocket, wouldn't you assume everyone at WDW was on vacation and had a pocket-full of money? Do you really think the shoes or the fanny pack are the tip off? If I'm walking in NYC or Rome, I try to blend, but I don't think there is much advantage to blending in WDW. Just keeping your eyes open and your pockets closed is the best you can do.

Because my normal surroundings usually involve a castle and a giant mouse.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I live in Vegas (a city foucused on tourists) and I wear my Crocs everyday and I have yet to hear "Hey let's mug her, see those shoes she's wearing that means she's a tourist.

Yes they are comfy especially for those of us who are in sever pain after only a couple of hours in "good looking comfortable shoes". I'm so glad you are lucky enough to not have any foot problems but maybe it would be nice to not make fun of others because you don't agree with their footwear choices (especially when this thread isn't titled "So Crocs sure are ugly huh, share your thoughts)

I've also seen on a CM website that Crocs often get eaten by escalators. So be careful in the Land, coming out at Pirates and to get up and down from the station at TTA.

My DS5 got the entire toe area eaten by an escalator - he was very lucky to keep all of his toes. I need to say that we were not at Disney when this happened. The escalator came to a halt, we all calmed down, and continued on our way. It was scary, but he's over it. Just be careful everyone.

Ok..once more I say...you're joking right???!!!:rotfl2: I guess we should all stay home with our doors locked and windows shut in case some big bad criminal gets us at Disney....(not that Disney isn't immune to crime). Let me guess you actually live on Main Street USA right?;) Because not everyone at Disney is a tourist...:rotfl:

Let me tell you something...you don't need to inform me of crime rates. I lived in the Orlando area for 5 years and even worked at the "crime ridden:laughing: " WDW. Let me give you the 411...crime happens everywhere, whether it's small town america or Orlando. I'm not going to stop wearing a certain shoe or fanny pack to "blend in" as you say. I  my crocs and my husband wears the fanny pack. If a criminal gets us...well..they'll make off with our kttk card, as we don't carry cash. what can I say stuff happens.:scared1:

Just for the record...I could care less what anyone wears especially celebs. Far be it for me to cast the 1st stone.:upsidedow

I got an idea...why don't you stay home and the rest of us "croc wearing fanny packing tourists" will go to WDW and have the best time of our lives.:cool1:

I dont see the need to fight over anything.

I know some people need shoes like them; diabetics, people who are overweight ect. Though I would hope you would chose the black or another natural color and not Lime Green or Neon Red or Pink. I can even see kids (below 10) wearing them because of the fun and crazy colors.

I never made fun of them, unless you are referring to the part of my post about Uggs. If so I find that hypocritical to say that Uggs are ugly and Crocs are not. You can not say that 1 of the most hated shoe is not as ugly as another. If I made fun of them in any other way please point it out.

As for the post about crime rates, though they can be deceiving they are also very true in my experience. In 1 city my mother was threatened with rape at knife point, our house was broken into, neighbors lawn furniture was stolen, a gang shooting down a few blocks and got in a car accident because someone was speeding. The crime rates there matched what we got and we were out of there as fast as possible.

To the people who cant figure out what I mean by "standing out"- I dont know if you people know this but WDW is in Orlando, Orlando is in Florida, People IN Florida can drive to and from. I personally dont consider these people as tourists because they live close by. I love picking out the people who I know are tourists because they stand out so much from the usual Floridian.

I'm a little suspicious of the girl at the wedding or prom in the boots (I'm sure her friends still love her) but I happen to think those celebs looks okay. Are we suppose to be judging them badly?:confused3

Respectfully - most Disney visitors ARE tourists. And, so far, I've been wearing one style or another of Crocs pretty much daily - all day - here at home... and I've never been mistaken for a tourist.

The statistics posted don't line up. If they're quoted correctly, they don't make sense. In the first display, you've got "Tampa", "Orlando", "National" in that order. In the second set, you've got - again in order - "Orlando", "Los Angeles", "National". The problem is, the figures attributed to Tampa in the first example are suddenly instead attributed to Orlando in the second:

I'm sorry, why do you "hope" I would choose black or neutral?? I LOVE my different colored Crocs and since I paid for them, I really don't see why anyone else would care what color I bought. :confused3 I'm not at Disney to put on a fashion show--I'm there to have a good time and to be comfortable enough to have a good time. Crocs help that process. I also think it is also VERY presumtuous of you to think that ONLY "some people need" to wear them because they are "diabetics, people who are overweight ect." What if someone just LIKES them????

Wow, this sure did get:offtopic: !!!
I was just hoping to warn those who have older Crocs. I have never slipped until this recent trip. They were extremely comfy to wear and I had not problems after 10 days, except for the slipping on wet surfaces.

I'll call Stacy and Clinton :teeth: I would call you, except despite Crocs' universal popularity with all types/sizes/conditions of people, you seem to think they should only be worn by those who, in your assessment, "need" them. As for the colors? I like having shoes that match my outfits.

Can you honestly name someone you know who just tried them on and loved the look and feel of them who is not diabetic, overweight, has any history of foot problems, or is a child?

I find the neon green crocs nauseating and obnoxious. I can put up with the pink and red, I may not find them age appropriate, but I can at least stomach it. The neon green is just disgusting, I dont care if it's crocs, a backpack, a room, a chair I just hate that color. The black, blue and white are fine. The multi colored flip-flops are nice with the white and red/orange. and the high sandals look good too.

In case I didnt make this clear I am talking about the classic crocks and the tacky ones(the bootish ones that are 3 diffrent colors and camouflaged), not the wedgies, flip flops, high heels or sandals. Those dont look bad at all.

Good advice on getting new Crocs. I wore mine last week from Tuesday til Friday when we were vacationing with Fay. I bought my Crocs last year and I did feel like I was going to slip a few times. In fact one night on the bus from DHS the floor of the bus was wet. The driver hit the brakes hard. Everyone standing fell forward. I spun around the pole I was hanging on and just about fell into some guy's lap.

Other than that, the Crocs were great and I didn't have to walk around in wet sneakers.

I discovered Crocs last year when I broke my foot and was in a walking cast. Crocs were the only thing I could find that made me level.

I'm glad you posted this. I did just buy my son a new pair this past week because he HAS worn them out!! Thanks for the reminder--its a good one!!
