I just got my first pair of Beach Crocs on Thursday last week. Yesterday, my brother led me and a few others on a tour of Ohio State for 90 minutes. I figure we probably walked about 3-5 miles in there and while my feet weren't tired, I did have blisters by the end of the trek. We're leaving for Disney next week, and I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to what to do to not get blisters with the Crocs? I'm wondering if I wear socks with them if that may help it any (I've gone with and without so far, yesterday was without).

Based upon the rave reviews in here, I really WANT to try them in the parks, but will have my tennis shoes in the car for at least the first day.

What are they supposed to look/feel like when they're broken in really well?

Thanks!

I use BodyGlide- it is wonderful for blister prevention!! It is a solid in a stick- like a solid antiperspirant- that you rub on blister-prone areas. I put it on my heels, around the balls of my feet, and between the toes, then put on my Crocs (I prefer to wear Crocs without socks, but I know some folks swear by socks. It's up to you which way you prefer them). I have been on several trips to WDW, walked all day each day for a week, and ended up with no blisters!

You can find it at large sporting goods stores, or you can go to www.bodyglide.com and look for a store that carries it near you.

Crocs don't need a "break in" period- they look and feel the same from the beginning. Nice and cushy!!

We used BodyGlide as well and had no blisters. I never had blisters with my Crocs even before using BodyGlide. My dh however had a pair of Crocs that didn't feel as comfortable as the original pair he owned. He put them in his hot car one afternoon and then immediately wore them for a few hours. He said this helped tremendously.

dkr-don't take this the wrong way, but I found that when I ordered a size too small, I too had blisters. According to the website, if you wear a half size, you should order the smaller size, but I did not find this to be true. My feet were much more comfy when I ordered the size larger. Also, crocs should fit a with a smidge "big" feeling, if that makes sense. Hopefully this will help you!

PS-If you have the right size, I would recommend using moleskin on the area prone to blistering.

Sassy, no problem. I'm fairly sure I have the right size. I usually wear a 10, but can go with anywhere between a 9 and 10. I tried on the medium (8-9) size and it felt too snug. My toes were hitting the end and it was not comfortable. I took the large (10-11) ones instead, which are a bit big, but my feet aren't hitting the end quite as much.

I may have to try the hot car trick later this week. I think I might be able to do that.

Stupid question here...you put the BodyGlide stuff on your foot and not the shoe, correct?

Yesterday was the longest I've worn them so far, so I'm wondering if that may have had an impact.

I always wear my Crocs with socks, this helps prevent blisters for me. I have found that if I don't wear socks I either get a blister on the side of my foot above the arch or in the arch itself (depending on which pair I am wearing). Just wearing socks has kept the blisters away.

I always carry a pair of thin socks with me when I wear my crocs. At home I can wear them all day long with no problem, but when I am really "walking" at a steady pace for a few hours, I sometimes get what I call a 'hot spot' - not a full blown blister, more like a rub/sore spot. I just slip on my socks and no problem! Funny thing, the next morning I could go sockless again for a while with no pain/hot spot. I usually alternate crocs/sneaks or sandals each day so I don't stress any potential sore spots day by day.:thumbsup2

I wear Crocs everywhere I go...even to work (no hole ones in black --- look like dress shoes!). If it is hot out, wearing socks prevents blisters. I have never had pain in my feet either.

I am curious about this Body Glide stuff because I have heard about it a lot here on the DIS. I may have to get some and try it out.

Yes! Bodyglide goes directly on your skin. It's not just for feet, either. You can use it anywhere to prevent chafing (thighs, etc.).

The first time I wore Crocs to do a lot of walking, I got a huge blister on the ball of one foot. I was wearing them with thin socks and walked all over Las Vegas for a day. It was very painful!

I ended up not wearing Crocs much at WDW. I only wore them to Downtown Disney and Kennedy Space Center but never to one of the Disney Parks. I wore my sneaker with thick socks and never got any blisters. I don't like wearing Crocs without socks because my feet sweat and then start sliding around. I have a weak ankle that I'm prone to twisting and having my feet slipping around in my shoes just doesn't feel safe to me.

I'm glad I tried the Crocs out for a few months before deciding whether or not to wear them at WDW. At first I really liked them and then I ended up thinking I'd be better off with my sneakers. I definitely recommend wearing them for at a least a few long walks before deciding if they're for you.

I will say Crocs are nice to wear on planes. They slip on and off easily so taking your shoes off for security is less of a hassle.

The first time I wore my crocs for anything involving time and distance was AK last August. I was fine until it rained. Post rain, I ended up getting a blister. Since then they have been worn a great deal of time. Socks with them the next day, no issues. I think I want to try that bodyglide though.

This year I have gotten a pair of Cleos and am in love with them. I spent a day in them at Canobie Lake Park two weeks ago, and my feet didn't ache at the end of the day and my feet didn't blister. They were a little dirty. I also wore them camping this entire weekend.

I am thinking of getting a second pair of Cleos and wearing both pair this August.

I second the crocs when flying. Life is so much easier.

Depending on where you got the blister, I have a suggestion. Was it on the area where the "button" is? Where the strap attaches? The nurse at First Aid in Animal Kingdom said that's where most people have problems. She gave me the round moleskin and told me to put it over the inside button attachment. That did the trick!

I never had that problem with my first crocs, but these new ones are a touch smaller, and a little more rigid. I only got the hot spot after 3 days of solid walking, but that moleskin kept it from turning to a blister.

I do not find crocs acceptable for long wearing. So IMHO "Based on reviews" here means nothing. If they don't work for YOUR feet then you are in trouble. They are not the "one shoe wonder" that everyone in the world can wear as it appears on the DIS board.... so don't force yourself to wear them because folks tell you they are the perfect park shoe. The perfect park shoe is the one that fits YOUR feet.

Thanks!

Are you still in the Columbus area? If so, you can get Body Glide just west of the Ohio State campus on Lane Ave at Front Runner. They also carry all kinds of socks for runners, so if you elect to go that route, they can help you out.

I wear my Black Disney crocs with OSU logos in them :cool1:

I have a spot on the top of my foot that doesn't really blister but digs into my skin (when trying the shoes out before the trip). I tossed the shoes in the dryer for a few seconds to try to stretch that spot a little then I used body glide every day of our Disney vacation. No idea if it worked but I do know I did not have a single hot spot with using it.

I think the hot spot is probably a better description than blister, thank you. It's right up against one of my toes. I think there's a bump up at the front of the shoe that's irritating it. It doesn't seem to be a factor when I wear socks though.
