Inspired by all your crockpot recipes, I just bought a 2.5 qt. size. The Rival 6 qt. just looked too big. There are only three of us. Will this be a useful size, or do you think I'll regret not getting the larger one?

Honestly, I like having a bigger one, and I just cook for DH and myself. For one thing, I can put a whole chicken in it. Also, most crock pot recipes freeze well. I put the leftovers in serving-size portions in freezer bags.

You can't fill a crock pot all the way up to the top. I think the max is around 2/3, but you can check for sure in your book. It's nice to be able to cook a whole roast with lots of potatoes, carrots, and onions. If you can't eat it all right away, the leftovers will keep wonderfully as long as you eat them within about 4 weeks and store them correctly.

I agree with Kermit bigger is better! I am cooking for three now in a 5 quart but am looking to buy an oval 6 quart crock pot. I can cook a 4 - 5 lb. roast and get several meals out of it!

Crock pot cooking is soooo easy and convenient! What a time saver! And combine it with a freezer and dinner time is a breeze.

Good luck and happy cooking! :D

I hope you still have the option of returning it since you're asking the question . . . . because I'll surprised if anyone says that a 2.5 qt is big enough! Like Kermit said, left-overs aren't a problem. When we were first married, DH & I had a 3 or 3.5 qt one. We were able to shove a SMALL chicken in it, but every time we had guests, it was difficult to get enough carrots & potatoes in with a beef roast.

I'm not sure the larger takes up more room unless you go for the oval & there's no problem with running it less than maximum.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, I can return it. Guess I'll be getting the larger one!
