Crockpot, controversial, HOW???

Although I hate to see this turn into a nasty debate....I'm trying to picture cooking in a value resort....there is such little room as it is. Plus the odor would get into your clothes, bedding, etc. But to each his own. I can only hope the sprinkler system kicks on if there is a grease fire or the crockpot decides to not function properly. Course, when I'm on vacation I am not cooking. If we want breakfast in the room....pop tarts are a wonderful invention! :lmao:

Let me start by saying I would never bring a crockpot of vacation to a hotel.

BUT, Why is it more of a fire hazzard than a coffee pot? I would think that if a coffee pot was left on when someone left it could start a fire.....I dont drink coffee. No, I am not trying to stir the pot.

I know no one intentionally leaves a coffee pot on. To me they both seem like fire hazzards :confused3

A lot of coffee makers have automatic shut-off. If ones at WDW don't have that feature, it would be a good idea. In any case, when Mousekeeping comes in to clean, they would shut off the coffee pot, whereas they wouldn't be turning off someone's crockpot. While sandwiches and cold food would become a bit boring after a few days, it seems it would be a lot simpler to buy a cheap styrofoam cooler and keep some bread and sandwich materials on hand if someone really has to make and eat in-room meals. Less clean-up, no odors, less prep time.

No worry for the germaphobes...vodka or gin was made in the bathtub also....so enjoy the lemonade :drinking1 The more the merrier party: Also, for those of you that bring your own coffee pot...good thinking. Remember that funny taste might be from the beanie weenies or the ramen noodles...best to stick with own pot. :woohoo:

My dh has already started the smore Vodka in his still and the bathtub Gin will be ready for the Annual Beanie Weenie, Ramen Noodle coffeeepot, Crockpot cooking, pool hopping, AK safari. :thumbsup2

OK, that makes sense, they are probably trained/told to look and see if it is on.

When did crockpots become controversial ? Maybe an unflattering picture was taken of one while it was walking barefoot in a public bathroom. :rotfl: sorry, lame joke I know.

I believe that some of the room share the same ventalation system. There are a lot of things people could cook that I wouldn't want to come back and smell in my room.

I can see bringing one's crockpot if you're staying in a cabin, a condo, or one of Disney's vacation club homes as they have full-sized kitchens with counter space, full-sized fridges, dishwashers, and sinks. But a regular Disney-sized hotel room? I just can't see how there is room to do all this. Space is so limited to begin with not to mention not enough room to sit and eat. Quickie snack meals, like cereal and milk, fruit, pop-tarts, maybe, but chicken & roast style dinners that require heavy-duty cooking materials? I certainly understand being on a budget, but at some point, that ain't no vacation! Thats pure work. I can see how this topic can easily become controversial and entertaining at the same time.

Re: the coffeepots & training Mousekeeping to check thenm for turn-off:
How about when the "Do Not Disturb" sign is up & the pot may be on?
then there are those that report occassionally, that their rooms have not been cleaned to spec--would sub-par or harried Mousekeepers be checking to see if the coffee pot's been left on?

If anything this thread has brought up the need to get the auto-shut off type pots or maybe they actually do shut off?
Ooohhh, & if they're taking requests, make them programmable :thumbsup2

Personally, I'd rather not cook on vacation, but our tummies can't take unlimited restaurant food, & DH winces too much for all-park dining. :teeth:
I think crockpots or other appliances, in tip top condition, are fine by me.
Yep, as OP noted, please don't go making sauerkraut :rotfl

If you cook in the coffee pot scrub it out! If you can haul in the food, you can certainly haul in a mini sponge & a thimble full of dish soap~
I wash out the pot before we use it--I figure it would be too easy to skip that step if a housekeeper's rushed!

Yep, what the resorts need is a lovely, resort themed, refillable crockpot! :rotfl2:
beenie weenies, anyone?

Well. we've had our computer unplugged several times, so I bet they wouldn't hesitate to unplug a crockpot.

wow, 77 post's ....... go figure, who knew crock pots are a hot topic, I didnt but I am glad I got an answer to my original question :thumbsup2

Can't speak about the other resorts, but the Poly coffee makers shut themselves off. I have no witty crockpot wisecracks to offer, sorry! :joker: If I think of one, I'll come back.

Does anyone else think that "roughing it" is no room service?

im lafin my ... off, cause im with the person that said , she barely cooks at home. me to , right now its to hot , tomorrow i will have a head ache, haha. i would never ever cook, boil or clean on vacation at disney. i know to each their own..........but come on its vacation.................

ummm, did someone mention beanee weenees? I'm there.

Me too, and I'm bringing all my relatives who are sleeping on air mattresses in my room. We also have our refillable mugs filled with lemonade that we got from our bath-tub.

Personally, I think we're dealing with two factors here. One is, if you're that tight with money that you need to cook in your room (after UPSing your food, GF grill and crockpot to your room ahead of time), you should save more before going to WDW on vacation. That's being a little judgmental IMO. But I don't care. I believe that. Until recently, all the rooms at the All-Stars were NOT designed for cooking! I believe now they have family suites (but of course, they cost more money) that you can cook in. Correct me if I'm wrong.

The other is the "whatever floats your boat", "why should anyone care what you do in your room" and the "to each his own" arguments. That would be ok but I think it's a being a bit self-centered to believe that you're the only one in that hotel and your **** doesn't stink. Add to that the potential fire hazard and now you're being inconsiderate to your hotel neighbors. I believe that too!
