I just saw someone else post this question and it seemed like a great idea! We are taking our first WDW trip in early May - it will be myself, DH, DD (4 1/2) and my mom. We are on the dining plan with 7 TS credits. Would love to hear your thoughts on our meals!

Arrival day: Mickey's Backyard BBQ (no park planned since we get in not long before our dinner reservation)
Day 2: Chef Mickey for breakfast (probably a MK day)
Day 3: Tusker House for dinner (so an AK day)
Day 4: Akershus for lunch (so an Epcot day)
Day 5: no ADR, so maybe a Hollywood Studios day with Downtown Disney at night?
Day 6: Crystal Palace for dinner (another MK day)
Day 7: Whispering Canyon for dinner (either Epcot or MK day)
Day 8: leave mid-afternoon so no ADR and will do either Epcot or MK

Thanks!!

I personally, for the most part, don't like to make many comments about other peoples restaurant choices. If you spend enough time reading reviews and posts on these boards or any others, you'll see that just about every restaurant has close to the same number of positive and negative reviews. I say stick with your gut choices, otherwise you may end up getting talked out of a meal that you would have personally loved that someone else didn't like.

The one observation I will comment on about your plan is your first night with Mickey's BYBBQ. How are you getting to Disney? Flying or driving? If flying, what time do you plan on landing and where are you staying? I would be cautious with planning any ADR that requires a CC hold if you are flying. If your flight is delayed for any reason, there is traffic getting from MCO to your resort or your resort to Mickey's BYBBQ, you may end up missing the ADR which will result in you being charged full price. Is there any chance you could switch around your DTD night with your BYBBQ? Not to mention that the BYBBQ is somewhat interavtive for the little ones and after a day of traveling it might be a little much on your DD (or you for that matter). I personally think that DTD is perfect for those days when you arrive on the later side and have no plan to go to a park that day.

Mickey's Backyard BBQ -- never been
Chef mickey -- we had dinner here and I don't recommend it for its food. But characters are fun!
Akershus for lunch -- LOVE it! So fun and the food was GOOD!
Crystal palace -- did breakfast and lunch and both were good. Character interaction is very rushed though.
Whispering Canyon -- we are trying it for the first time in August

Have never done Akershus or Mickey's barbeque....so I can't say. Others are fine. The only one on your list that we didn't like was Whispering Canyon. I was a newbie....not sure if there were options besides the family style thing in the middle of the table. Thought it was overpriced, and our girls didn't enjoy the food. The funny thing was, the only thing they really liked was the corn on the cob. When we asked for more, they brought us two pieces.....there were five of us:rolleyes1

Day 5 I would do either a Fantasmic pkg lunch at Mama Mellrose at MGM or do Raglan Road for dinner at DTD!

I have to agree with Oh the Pain.

1. I hesitate to comment on other people's choices of restaurants since everyone has their own particular tastes and preferences. You need to try a place for yourself to know if you like it. But there's nothing on your list that I feel compelled to warn you away from either:lmao:

2. I would definitely recommend that you not have an ADR that requires a CC hold unless you are arriving 6 hrs before that meal. Especially if you are flying. As Oh the Pain suggested, it makes a lot more sense to hit DTD on your arrival evening (especially if folks will be tired) and doing the Backyard BBQ later in the week.

Thanks for the input, everyone! I understand why it's difficult to comment on someone's restaurant choices - what one person loves, another might hate and vice versa! I think we researched pretty well, so fingers crossed we like where we're going! :-)

We're kind of stuck doing Mickey's BBQ on arrival night because when we made our ADRs, there weren't any openings for the Thursday night (which is when I was really planning on). Our flight is due to arrive at 1:45 PM, so we were thinking we'd be at our resort by 4, which will hopefully give us enough time to get over to the venue early enough. It shouldn't be a very difficult travel day, since we don't need to be up any earlier than usual and it's a direct 3-hour flight. So, hopefully everyone is still in good spirits! We'll hope for the best.
