I thought it was unrealistic that J.J. would be on the air alone talking to the unsub. That when she had asked Hotch for help, he said, "I'll be
listening," instead of staying on the phone, in her ear. I would have thought, Hotch, as Unit Chief, or Rossi with his nearly 25 years of experience, would have stayed with her, coaching her through, if she went off the mark, or strayed, as she did, from empathizing with the killer.
What if it had gone horribly wrong and Curry had killed Ellie? What were they going to say to Strauss later, "Oh, we were
listening in on the radio?

I don't think that would have gone over well. J.J. told Hotch a couple times she doesn't do hostage negotiation. It's not like the two most experienced members were doing anything else at the time and couldn't be in her ear. They were both were listening to the broadcast.
Of course, it was all done to set her up for leaving next week.
I was really glad they wrapped up the plot today. I was worried that it would be like last year and be a sub plot for half of the season. The show still doesn't disappoint.
Like you, I'm not ready for another "Reaper" that takes up half the season. Give it about 2 more seasons, and I might be time. I was afraid that since Tim Curry was the unsub, that this would be more than a 2 episode arc. Glad it wasn't.
Yes, I wondered the same thing. Especially since we knew J.J. would be on 2 episodes. I was afraid Curry would call into the station and she'd end up having to talk back & forth to him for 2 episodes and that ended up screwing up her mind.
I had to dig back to a press release I had posted a while back:
'Criminal Minds' exec teases premiere

"The producer of Criminal Minds has promised that the cliffhanger ending to the fifth season finale will not be resolved quickly.
Viewers saw the daughter of Detective Spicer (Eric Close) kidnapped by a sinister serial killer (Tim Curry) in the episode.
Ed Bernero told TV Guide that the sixth season premiere will feature a "rolling hostage situation" in which a member of the BAU team makes contact with Curry's character.
"The solution rests on whether or not that team member can convince this psychopath to spare the little girl he's taken," he said.
He added that the events of the premiere will have strong repercussions, explaining that
"another team member will be affected for a long, long time by what happens".
I'm glad J.J. is mentally okay. If I'm interpreting the press release properly,
another character is affected, not J.J. Which of course, would likely be Morgan.
I am SO mad they are getting rid of Prentiss. That leaves Garcia as the only female on the show. They HAVE to have more than one.
The reports are they will be introducing another woman to the show later on. They had taken several episodes to bring in Rossi to replace Gideon. Although, that changeover was unplanned.
I have only recently started watching this show and I must say I am hooked. I love it. The characters are great and I'm disappointed that JJ is leaving. I am thankful for the couple of stations that play the old episodes. I watch them whenever possible.
Welcome!
