Crime Scene Question-VERY LONG

Ok, I have been trying to research this question and can't seem to find the answer. Not sure if anyone here knows the answer, but thought, I'd give it a shot.

About 3:00-3:30 a.m. this morning, I am woken up with flashing red lights coming through my window. I look outside and see a firetruck and a few other rescue/police type vehicles. I didn't get a good look, because of the time of the morning. So I finally get back to sleep (I would had been nosy and went over to ask/look, but didn't want to leave DS10 in house alone). Well, a couple hours later I woke up again and found DS23 in Living room, just home from work, so I ask him were the rescue vehicles still on street when he came home. We must have miscommunicated, because he said yeah, it was a car fire. Ok, so I go back to bed for a bit before having to get youngest up ready for school.

When I get up again, I ask DS23, so which neighbor's car. We figure out we are not talking about the same thing. He had to take a detour, because of a car fire, on the way home from work, at a major intersection. So I look outside again and there's a car parked in my yard that I had never seen. A police car, and a black type of SUV at the neighbor's house, 2 doors down.

Finish getting youngest ready for school, sis comes to pick him up. I walk him out to car, and we are wondering what happened. At that time they wheeled a body, in a body bag, out to the black SUV. Stupid me, says "OMG-is that a body on that gurney?" in front of DS10, sis says "Sure looks like it to me?"

I didn't know her well, but as far as I knew, she was in her late 40's-early 50's, lived alone. But on occasions you would see different cars in her driveway. I just saw her two weeks ago, out front, reading a book. If it was even her or possibly someone who was visiting, I don't know.

My question is.....Do Crime Scene vans go to all houses where a death has occured, or only if something doesn't look right? They didn't rope off the house or anything with police tape, but did carry out about 10 paper bags of stuff.

I asked the investigator, who's car was parked in my yard, if everything was ok (knowing it's not) and I get a long, drawn out "Ummmmmmm". I tell him I was wondering because I'm a single Mom, he then tells me "Yeah, everything is ok." I will assume, if something did happen to someone, they either had who did something or possibly it was of the deceased own doing?

I guess they are wondering if anyone around the vicinity heard any thing or saw anything. Hope you find out, you can call your local news station and see if they know anything.

In Arizona, if there is a death of any kind in a home, AND a physician is willing to sign a death certificate saying the death was expected/natural causes ie cancer, age etc. the office of medical examiner(OME) does not need to respond and the family may make arrangements with funeral home immediately to have the deceased picked up. If the deceased was not under the care of a physician - hence no signature on death certificate, the funeral home will not pick up w/o ok from OME unless they request it. 99.9% of time OME picks up and police take pics and statements from people at home. Sounds to me like this was not an expected death. If they were removing bags out of home and it took that long most likely they also served a search warrant there and were just finishing up. hope that helps

Seemed like a long time to me, for I don't know how long they were there before the lights waking me up, I never heard any sirens or anything.

She just had workers there earlier this week. Monday there was a plumber's van there and Tuesday a Roto Rooter type truck there.

I believe she worked, we spend much time out front, and she pulled in about the same time in the afternoon. But we hadn't been out front in the afternoon's this week, due to too many errands.

Unless your neighbor was under hospice/doctor care they have to treat the incident as though it may be a crime. You don't want to make any assumptions that this was natural causes and then have the autopsy show it was something else. By then the "crime scene" could be contaminated. I'm sorry for your neighbor.

Unless your neighbor was sick and "expected" to die, the police have to treat any death as suspicious until proven otherwise. It sounds like someone called the police maybe to say they hadn't seen her in awhile and the police went to check things out and found her, or maybe someone she knew walked into the house and found her. She very well could have died of natural causes, but just in case she didn't, the police have to treat it like a crime scene. They may even go around the neighborhood, asking questions about the woman's habits, health, etc. They'll tell you if you have a reason to be worried.

I'm going to say they are probably investigating it to see what exactly happened but I wouldn't necessarily think there is some crazed person on the prowl. That probably would have already made the news if they thought that or anything of that nature.

We actually dealt with a crime scene death in our family and it was front page news the next day, made a blurb on the nightly news. So it was quickly out there due to the situation.

I think they treat any death as a crime scene until determined otherwise. Even car accidents (my uncle died in a car accident where it was just weird, slammed into a pole, we don't know why - wasn't drinking or anything, so ??? but my aunt who was also in the accident but survived had to go through an inquest and basically they looked at it via all angles since it wasn't a cut & dry case before ruling it accidental.)

The investigative report (Page 1 only) states "Unattended Death". She was 59, owned her own Orential medicine/acupuncture business.

The last time someone was known to hear from her was about 11:15 p.m. Wed. night, and the call was placed to authorities at 3:04 a.m. It came from someone in PA.

When my mil died at home (she had congestive heart failure but dying wasn't emminent) my fil called EMT. She had died in her sleep hours before but fil didn't know. The EMT did not transport her and called police. They do treat any death that isn't known to be a hospice case as suspicious. The county coroner came in the afternoon to prounce death and cause. Mil laid in bed for approximately 8 hours before it was all resolved.

Okay, let me see if I understand. You live in FLA. Someone spoke to or saw her at 11:15pm Wed night. And then a call to 911 came at 3am from someone in PA? Is that weird, or is it just me??

That definitly seems a little strange to me. I would still be walking on eggshells (not to freak you out!)

Seemed weird to me too. The only thing I can figure maybe she was talking to someone on the phone and wasn't feeling/doing well. Maybe it took the PA. caller that long to find someone to contact to go check it out.

On the report, the PA person was about 30 years older. Maybe she had a hard time figuring out who and how to contact someone down here?

I do know she lived alone.
