Hi Fellow Disers and Scrappers :wave2:-

I sure some of you will eye roll at this, it's probably been asked a million times, yet my searches take me too many years back and I know things have changed so much....I am embarrassed to even ask....

I have moved forward in the past year to purchasing a cricut:cool1:, now I am desperately trying to figure out how to use my PC, download all these amazing things you create and share, especially the Disney stuff, cut them, etc. Let me say, I am a smart girl, but WHOA, I am all over the place trying to figure this out!:scared1: I got the Cricut Craft room on my pc now....

next step, (this is where I am confused with the SCAL, SCAL2,3, etc. - I think I understand the lawsuit issue, etc.) is there a way to download these shared files now a days that I admire from all of you from blogs (such as Reddy's:worship:), onto my Cricut Craft room, or do I need a different program, can I even get it to work? I lose it at this step, so confused!:(

Please forgive my ignorance, you are all experts and do amazing things, but I just can't seem to locate information on how to do all this for a beginner, I'm so frustrated:furious:, maybe I should just keep buying stickers and cartridges - boo hoo:sad:

If someone can even direct me in the right direction where I can learn how to do this, I would be forever grateful!:lovestruc

Erin,

Never a dumb question to ask... I don't have the answers for you because I am not tech savvy nor do I have SCAL... However, I bet Reddy will be on soon and can answer your questions... if not, I'm sure there are others that can let you know what they know!!

Congrats on your purchase!!!

Thanks Nan for your encouraging words. I just love paper crafting and want to take it to the next level! I am just jumping on this train late and am behind the times!

From continued web searching last night, I am starting to think I am not going to be able to use my cricut at all with scal, or I have to get an old version of it and it doesn't sound good, that is if I am understanding this correctly. I was researching on a SVG? website last night.

Thanks for reading! Off to Weight Watchers! Two years at goal! Gotta keep going!

Erin,

That is correct. Due to the lawsuit, scal no longer works with cricut. If you can find an old version, that works with your firmware, then you should be able to use it. But if you have updated your firmware for craft room, then you might not be able too. I havent tried craft room yet, because I love scal! And don't want to lose it.

If your feeling frisky, check out the swaps. I also get some great stuff from the others, and sometimes challenged to be more creative in my own work.

about leave for the week-end but I'm waiting on DH to get home & babysitters to get here

you have to find either SCAL1 or SCAL2 to work with cricut or change cutting machines - I"m thinking the cameo at this moment when mine dies which I hope is along ways off

SCAL3 will work with cameo & is what for sale
SCAL1 is a pain to use - it doesn't have more than one page
SCAL2 is what you really want but finding it at a cost that isn't more than the cameo is the big problem - try ebay

the cricut craft room - you might try asking there if anyone can make the files over - several people there can do amazing things - honestly I never been in it

Thank you so much! I wish I would have researched more before buying the cricut a year ago.

THAT helps a lot, just figuring out what I need is my first step! Thanks a million for your time and you inspire me with your work! Have a great weekend! Erin

Thank you so much for asking this quesiton.

I hadn't tried Cricut Craft Room because I was so unimpressed with Design Studio. But I had no idea that if I used it I wouldn't be able to use my SCAL program. I love SCAL. I learned alot from this thread so thank you for asking!

You are welcome! And you are lucky that you have SCAL - I am basically out of luck unless I buy a new machine.

before you wrap more money in the Cricut and all their carts, you may want to compare the price of a Cameo.

On Oh My Crafts, the price of a Cameo is generally $205-ish... with a 25% off coupon (and yes, they accept the coupon even tho it has a disclaimer on the bottom)

The Cricut expresssion mats will work wonderfully with the Cameo.

What I did was sell all my Cricut stuff and used that money for the Cameo.
Best investment ever, and still had money left over.

I still use SCAL3 with my Cameo.

You need to decide if you want the learning curve to learn how to design your own files, using a variety of software available... I use Inkscape (it's free) to create SVG files

We are more than willing to help point you in the right direction. (enablers!)

Also, if you are still on the fence, the cameo software (Silhouette Studio) is a free download. And every week the Silhouette store offers a free file. You can download the software, and collect the free files. So I would recommend you play around with the Sil software, to see if you like it.

Please, ask any other questions, we are here to enable. :rotfl2:

this is really, really helpful, thank you so much, definately something to consider, and in light of the cost and limitations of the cricut, probably a great investment like you said. So then if I have the cameo, and scal3 - does that work with sharing all of the awesome files so many of you show us? Thanks again for your time and enabling!!! Erin:)

yes, you would be able to utilize svg files with either SCAL3 or Sil Studio (need to upgrade to Desginer Edition to directly open svg files)
