I feel dumb.

I was playing around with my new Expressions yesterday and couldn't figure out how the layers work. I was trying to make some Chip and Dale die cuts.
Anybody have any websites to direct me to? I looked on the 'net last night but couldn't find anything.

I was trying to do a Chip and Dale character and for the white part it said "not available".
I was just hoping to find somethere where it shows me step by step how to make one of the character die cuts.

I think all you need to do is to use the Shift key with the Layers button for the white parts. (I also did a Dale, one of my faves). You can probably find some help on the cricut.com message boards (community). Searching cricut videos on YouTube will also be helpful. When I got my little bug I was flabbergasted that there was no info about things like layering -- but, I jumped in with Minnie and Mickey figures and managed to get them to work.

On the Chip and Dale the top layers: face/white the feature you need to use is the "shift" key. This will cut your white layer for his face...

There are some books that show the white areas as missing in the booklets!! They really aren't missing, just you can't see them printed on the pages like with some others.
For example:
I know on the Mickey and Friends Cart: page 95 in my booklet does not show the shift key avaiable to does Goofy's eyes...but the feature is available. I believe that it is availabe on several other areas where it is not showing the feature...

as for websites to learn about your Cricut, I like the Pink Stamper. She had some great videos that were easy to follow along. She designs mainly with only Cricut Carts. http://www.mypinkstamper.com/

For the Chip N Dale faces (pages 52 & 53 in Mickey and Friends handbook), you use the shift+layers for face/white.

The "not available" on that page is refering to only the layers for face/white does not have a cuttable image. The rest of the face part would already be part of the brown fur or flesh colored face pieces or the black base is peeking thru from the base layer(for the eyes/mouth etc).

Thanks. I will check out her videos and fool around some more with the Cricut.
I wish somebody local here would put together a Cricut day or something.

I always look at layering as being like putting together a puzzle. Are you cutting out the base piece first? The base piece has little cuts (not all the way through the paper) that show more or less where the pieces lay. You'll still have a bit of a border around the subject and between pieces. I really think they should call it "piecing" not "layering" ... your not laying one piece on top of the other. Make sense?
