Cricut character help

ok -- i have assembled my first cricut character -- i didn't think that as much of the base would show as is? did i do it wrong? should the base be a different color? please any feedback welcomed...this is for swap and i want it to be considered quality by everyone...

Did you select the shadow feature, by chance?

The base is made by using the key with no special features selected. Then if you want another layer, you can use the shadow. The normal base also makes partial cuts showing where to adhere the other pieces. So was your base completely smooth, because that would be a sign that you used the shadow layer.
 
She looks correct to me. It should look like you colored in a coloring page. The black lines are supposed to be there. They are more noticeable on some characters than others, but your Ariel looks like what I have made.
