I have outgrown my cabinet. It is time to say goodbye to the cricut boxes -- hard because I do like them. I have seen a few different ideas for storage, but most I rejected because the overlays, books, and carts were in different places. I tried this idea today. I like it. I can put my carts in 1/3 of the space they currently reside in. It is not flimsy.

My only concern is that I have 44 to make!

I ditched my boxes a while ago. I've been using the photo storage boxes, but they didn't hold enough and the carts got in the way. Then I took the carts out and put them in the (Christmas) ribbon storage doo-hickey. That works okay, but the carts are in a separate place from the books and overlays. Then I realized I have a Gypsy. So, I'm linking all my carts (we won't count how many) and I'll only need to have the books and overlays! Yipppeee!

I love my FF Cart, I never thought of using it for cart storage.....
right now I have my carts in a photo storage box with dividers.

morgansmom2000 - on the gypsy, do you even need the overlays? just wondering as i thought it was all on the device. I don't have it, but was looking into it.

Have a good day everyone!

:)

No, you wouldn't need the overlays with the Gypsy, but if I used my Cricut attached to my Gypsy (instead of putting a cart in), I will probably need it. I like to look at my books too, because it's so hard to see what the carts actually make.

You don't need the overlays to cut on the Cricut if you have the Gypsy connected to it. I don't always use my Gypsy when cutting on the Cricut so I still need access to my carts. Sometimes, I just stick a cartridge into the Cricut and cut the regular way.

I ditched my boxes my boxes a while ago and use poly envelopes that come in different colors, the kind that have the string tie, is a little larger than a #10 envelope and has gussets on the side. I buy them at Office Max. The book, cart and overlay fit nicely into it. I have a label on each one and they are stacked upright in a bin that fits on the shelf right under my Cricut. The bin has a top on it with a handle, so when I go to a crop I just put the top on and go!

Good to know if I ever invest in the gypsy. I do have a birthday coming up...:rolleyes1

I do like to look at the books, great ideas and I can see all the parts too!!!

OOhh maybe I'll try this instead. I like the idea I posted, but it will take me days to complete it and I'd rather be working on other things.

For those that have stopped using the boxes, do you miss the back of the box? I was thinking maybe I would photocopy the backs of the boxes

I didn't find the backs all that helpful, but I use the books a lot. I don't miss the backs.

I just can't seem to separate from my cart boxes. Right now I store my carts with their boxes in cd wire racks. The wire goes about 3/4 of the way up the box so I can easily see the titles to grab the cart I need.

I think I'd miss the backs of the box. I'm always pulling out the box to look at the back. I'm hoping I can keep everything in my boxes. So far I'm alright with space, but if I keep getting new carts, something will have to change!:confused3

I found the zip close version at Staples but for $2.29 each that would be quite an expense. I found the string ones on line, but it would cost $70 + shipping for me to get 60 of them:scared1: I guess I'll ahve to find the time to make the paper ones.

My friend uses a clear plastic over-the-door shoe holder. She has a cartridge box in each compartment. I think she put it over her closet door. I guess you could also hang it on your wall.

Ugghhh...that is a great idea, but my scrap area is my diningroom, so everything has to be tucked away. I don't have a door to hang one on.

Susan, check the Dollar Spot at Target. They usually have those folders around this time of year. I haven't been in a while (okay, maybe 5 days), but I can't remember if they had the organization stuff out or not.

Target also has the larger poly envelopes, letter size, for something like 2.99 for 3. Another thing to use is one of those expandable pocket folders that are letter sized, you would have to purchase a few to keep all 44 in, but I think some of them come with something like 12 pockets. I hope you know what I'm talking about - you see them all over now that it's tax season because they are good for organizing your receipts and tax info.

I don't miss the boxes at all. I use my design studio on my computer to look up what carts have what shapes on them. The carts are searchable on that software.

I couldn't find them at Target. I have cut 45 of the folders from the link I posted and I have 6 complete. Now that I have a new stylus, it is much faster. If I make 5 per day, I won't go crazy with boredom and will be finidhes in just over a week.

Thanks for all of your suggestions.
