We just got done dinner and I made crescent rolls tonight for the first time in ages.

OMG they are so small now. Has anyone but me noticed they are shrinking?? lol

I know everything is being packaged smaller but dinner rolls? How much smaller can they go? :confused3

I haven't bought them in a while, but we always have them for Thanksgiving. I'll be sure to get extra!

What I did notice was the cans of cranberry sauce were smaller. I had a can left from last year, it was 16 ounces, the new one only 14. Same sale price as last year.

I noticed the same thing, and then realized the next can over was "jumbo" cresent rolls for a little bit more money... Just a gimmick to raise prices and get you to buy them... But that being said i did it anyhow:goodvibes

I know that a lot of items in the grocery store are "shrinking" but here's a funny story....

I decided to make corn muffins at home. I got the Jiffy mix (I know, not exactly "homemade" but whatever) and mixed it, put the batter in the muffin pan, baked them. When they were done, I was laughing about how small they were. My hubby had to remind me that those are the size of "normal" muffins as opposed to the gigantic muffins you buy in the grocery store or the local Dunkin' Donuts. I stopped and thought about it and it's true. Everything was so "supersized" from the 90s on out that most of us have "forgotten" what a normal size item is (whether it be muffins, croissants, burgers, etc)

Dh who works at a grocery store and I were just talking about this. I was complaining about the Celeste microwavable pizzas were smaller than before he then replied everythings getting smaller. The box of baby wipes I get which normally have 8 packs now only have 6. I guess instead of raising prices they will just shrink the package and think we won't notice.

Well I for one do!

I just bought them the other day for the first time in ages as well and thought the same thing!! It's getting a little ridiculous! We used to love rolling the hot dogs in them and cooking them, but I doubt they will even cover a hot dog now!

I had my husband pick up crescent rolls the other day after not buying them for several years. I couldn't believe how small the tube was.

Tuna cans are now 5 oz instead of 6 oz. You can't even get 2 decent sized sandwiches out of one can anymore.

The cookbook I received for a wedding present over 30 years ago will often call for a specific sized can of something like a 14 oz can that now is only 12 oz.

I don't think the size of the regular pillsbury cresents has changed but they do make a jumbo size now that they did not make till a few years ago.

Something else to ask the dough boy about when I see him....

This is my biggest issue with the downsizing of stuff. BTW - it used to be 6.25 oz. I just cringe when I am buying tuna. Just cringe. I've gracefully tolerated all other downsizings...BUT GOSH DARN IT - they should have left my tuna alone.

try wrapping chocolate chips inside the rolls before you bake them.

I'm so glad I didn't buy the crescent rolls yet, or I'd be eating the whole tube now. :rotfl: Thanks for this, I will try it.

wow, it stinks how they can get away with doing little things like this to get more money.

Cheez-its

My store had the 16 oz box for 2/$5. Then it went to a 13.75 oz pkg 2/$5. Now it's 13.75oz for $2.59.

Those small increases net a 20% increase!!!

Same thing with the minute maid juiceboxes I put in my dd's lunch. Big print in the corner that says "2 more Juice Boxes than other leading juice box 8 packs!" And it is the same price as last year, but last year, they had 15 boxes in the pack, not 10!!

Oh yum! My kids will love this. Ideas like this are why the packaging may be shrinking, but I am not :rotfl:

Ok, definitely going to make chocolate crescents.....LOL I buy the store brand, right next to the Pillsbury and honestly, they are just as good and NOT smaller. I only buy the Pillsbury if they are on sale for less then the store brand, which rarely happens. We love crescent rolls, I buy them every 2 months or more often....probably more now that I saw that about the choc. chips....LOL

We use Hershey Kisses! OMG it's so good! And it's something the kids can do themselves. I actually just bought the stuff to do this the other day...Thanks for reminding me!

Anyways here's what I do:

Croissants
1 package (8 oz.) refrigerated quick crescent dinner rolls
24 HERSHEY'S KISSES Brand Milk Chocolates or HERSHEY'S HUGS Brand Candies
powdered sugar

Heat oven to 375°F. Remove wrappers from chocolates. Separate dough into 8 triangles. Place 2 chocolates, sideways, points facing out, at wide end of each triangle; place an additional chocolate on top of other two pieces, point down. Starting at wide end, roll to opposite point. Place rolls on ungreased cookie sheet. Curve slightly into crescent shape. Bake 9-10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; sift with powdered sugar.

There are different sizes.... The regular ones are pretty little but there are bigger ones in bigger cans...

OMG, pain au chocolat, made at home. What a fabulous idea!!! :worship:

So glad I opened this thread!!!

I love the idea of the chocolate crescents and will make them this weekend! :goodvibes
The crescent rolls are definately smaller. I use them with a recipe for a chicken dish and I use can chicken and the recipe, so the filling is a constant amount, and I noticed last time I made it, there was more filling than I usually have, but not really, it was the roll dough that was smaller.
