Creme brulee

Can someone explain what creme brulee is?...or what its made of and why there are different flavors of it...

I may know what it is by some other name..but then again, I am dumb sometimes and just have to ask....lol

It may be a question in the Millionaire game and I dont want to miss it...lol

Main Entry: crème brû·lée
Pronunciation: -br[UE]-'lA, -brü-
Function: noun
Etymology: French, literally, scorched cream
Date: 1886
: a rich custard topped with caramelized sugar

This is out of the dictionary, I was going to call it an egg custard, but I'm not sure that's right....... it's really good though, and you can get a REALLY good example of it at the Fountain View Cafe in Epcot right near the big Dancing Fountain. It's only $3.50 or so for a good size cup.

I hope that this helps..........

I would bet money the cracked pepper server was pulling your leg.
Kallison I'll bet you a free black pepper brulee.;)LOL Some restaurants serve black pepper ehanced creme brulee on occasion. Jiko at AKL used to serve their creme brulee dusted with black pepper. If I remember correctly, it was called paradise dust or something like that.
Here is a recipe from Zitoune(Olive) A New York area restaurant if you feel adventurous
Coconut and Black Pepper Creme Brulee

Serves 4
1/2 pint heavy cream
7 ounces coconut milk
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/3 cup sugar, plus more for the tops
7 egg yolks

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a mixing bowl, combine all ingredients. Pour the mixture into ramekins. Bake for about 20 minutes or until just set. Allow the custards to cool at room temperature, then refrigerate.
Just before you plan to serve, remove the ramekins from the refrigerator.
Sprinkle generously with sugar until the tops are completely covered. Use a small blow torch to caramelize the tops of the creme brulee

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!!!! My husband has been forever obsessed with finding the blueberry creme brulee again:p I'm off to send him this thread and to make a lunch PS for the Hollywood Brown Derby :)

Edit: Do you have these reversed? I remember DH ordering the double vanilla bean one at lunch the last time because he couldn't find the blueberry one. I remember this because I ate the biscotti and preserves, LOL!! Is the Blueberry Creme Brulee a dinnertime dessert at the HBD? We're going to Disney in a week, so I'm making the PS as soon as someone responds to this with an answer either way :)

We ate lunch at Brown Derby last trip, and Double Vanilla Bean was the only creme brulee available.

I also love Creme Brulee. I have only had it at Disney at the Concorse. It is the classic version. But excellent. We are going to Le Cellier on our next trip and I will definatly try it there. Could someone make a list of the places that offer Creme Brulee? I would love to orint it up and take it with me on our next trip to see how many I can get:D

We did not enjoy the Creme Brulee from Fountainview bakery. We did enjoy Le Cellier's and CRT's immensely!

I didn't enjoy Le Cellier's Creme Brulee, but everyone has their own preferences......

Yachtsman Steakhouse is DD absolute fave.

I agree with Halle. I just had the white chocolate creme brulee at Portobello Yacht club and it was totally outrageous!
