There we were, waiting for the SoundSational Parade outside the Alice Bathrooms on Sunday evening. Two of us went off to secure some churros, while the other two held our places. A DL CM, dressed in white shirt and shorts and with a custodial patch and CM tag on his shirt (from the UK, according to that) started chatting up the two who were waiting. He inquired about where they were from, brought up something about Democrats vs. Republicans, Gun Laws, and same-sex marriage, all rather “innocently.” My friends started feeling a bit uneasy, as he came in pretty close to their faces while talking, and he shortly thereafter moved on to some other folks. During the parade, he stood off to the side behind some ropes watching, and after the parade reeled in the same ropes. Clearly, he worked there, but even though he was dressed as a janitor he never had a broom/dustpan that most of the custodians in the park carry around. We definitely kept him in the corners of our eyes during the whole parade.

I understand if Disney places “plainclothes” people around parade routes, but bringing up hot-button issues with the guests (in the hopes of seeing if we had any pent-up rage about a particular subject, perhaps?) seemed a bit untoward.

Any thoughts about this?

If you got his name, I would drop Guest Services a note describing what you saw and when it occurred (date and time). If it happens again, I would alert a security CM and let them deal with it.

(I don't know that I'd call this individual a "plainclothes" security CM - I always thought they dressed as guests and not as CMs in other divisions. That being said, he could have been a guest dressed up as a janitorial CM - I gather it's not the hard to find CM costumes on the secondary market.)

If he was trying to be covert then he failed. I don't think they'd have someone covert in a uniform.

100% this.

That's my experience as well. If you ever see a "guest" with a coiled earpiece/cord, that's not a guest.

"Plain clothes" is pretty much that. An example, something happened a couple years ago that brought out a couple "foxes." My first thought was these were guys trying to help the person who was trying to cause a problem. Then I realized what I was seeing. The gentleman I saw had an empty stroller with a Mickey balloon attached, some blankets in the stroller, in sweatpants and a tee shirt, a cup of coffee, and an ear piece. And he whipped a walkie talkie out...... Situation was handled in seconds.

This was categorically inappropriate. No DL CM should ever try to initiate political debate. Definitely sounds creepy and I question whether the person even worked there. Sounds a little unbalanced to me.

I'm betting he was a custodial worker who was assigned parade duty, hence no broom or dustpan. His assignment was probably to ensure people stayed behind the ropes, and take the ropes down after the parade. Sound like he was bored and decided to chat up the crowd. He used poor judgement in selecting his topics, but I doubt if he was profiling the crowd based on their political views.

Wasn't this guy was it? I would report it if a creepy guy was hanging out by the bathrooms. With teenage daughters i have to protect my own and other people's kids.

I'm leaning more towards this.

It's hard to get context without actually witnessing it. Nevertheless, he would not be a plain clothes based on description.

He definitely worked there, as he reeled up the rope after the parade. He probably wouldn’t have had the plastic reel if didn’t work there.

And he wasn’t hanging out by the bathrooms, rather, the viewing area which are adjacent to the bathroom doors.

I second @figment_jii

Since you got his name, contact Disney and ask them. If for some strange reason he is suppose to be doing what he is doing, they can let him know that he is missing the mark. And if he isn't, they can stop him.

If he is a cm then contacting Disney with the time and date and the fact that he had U.K. on his name tag, even if you don't recall his name, should let them pinpoint him. He was inappropriate.

And most Europeans I know are more knowledgeable about American politics than we are, and don't tend to be super-inappropriate, so the whole thing is odd

How would one "contact Disney?" Only being semi-sarcastic here. I mean, where would one even begin to presume they'd get the correct department? It's not like there's a "contact us about suspicious-looking CMs" section of their website. I think the time to have told someone was at the time it was happening.
