Creepy guy at the gym...UPDATE page 2

I would also like to point out that ALWAYS being aware is a good thing because often the real creeps aren't the ones that act like creeps.

One of the best pieces of advice I was ever given is that when the little voice in your head is telling you that something is wrong about a situation, you have to listen! You absolutely did the right thing!

It's true....we just KNOW when something is not right. Go with your gut!

I came home this afternoon a slew messages on my voicemail all related to this incident. The owner got my message yesterday and decided to take a quick look at the security tape (didnt even know they had any) and he said that after reviewing some "disturbing" behavior he had to call the police and they were coming to review the tapes. Apparently this creep had been at the gym since around 8am (I was there in the afternoon) and he had been doing creepy things all day. WHen they went back to look at his sign in's (when they swipe you in) they noted that he has been coming in several times a day.

They wouldnt tell me what was on the tape other than "disturbing" and "possibly criminial" behaviour and that he appeared to be going in an out of the womens locker room all day (no cameras IN there, just outside it so who knows what he did IN there ewwww) and when I saw him I was in the fitness room for women not the locker room, if I saw him in there I would have screamed. Ick.

The messages were from the owner, his wife, the police officer I spoke with yesterday and another officer that wanted me to come in for a report. They also interviewed the emplyees and are contacting the other gym members who have complained. I am headed to the police station after dinner.

See? Always follow your instincts. Good for you! Do they know who he is?

My heart raced when I read your post; good for you for acting on your instincts. I've ignored mine before (although never in a situation as serious as this), and I've regretted it. You very well coud have saved someone's life :goodvibes.

:thumbsup2 Good job OP!

They do know his name, and I think the police know more about him than they are telling me.

WOW!!!

Great!!!

:scared1: I shudder to think of what they saw him doing on the tapes. Good for you OP!!! Can't beat womens intuition!

If a person can't even manage to behave himself in a public place once spotted and approached I think it is safe to assume something is deeply & terribly wrong. Any normal person would be embarrassed when not only caught in the act like that but confronted.

What alarmed you probably wasn't his looking. Think about it, what probably bothered you was the likely fact he did not react when you caught his eye as he stared, which I am sure you did before going up to him. The fact he did not even attempt to flubber trough a pretend explanation when you confronted him and scurried away like a toddler is equally weird. Ever stranger is the fact he returned as if you never approached him in the first place. The whole thing would have screamed trouble to me too. Before you go to the police really think about what it was that made you evaluate him as a risk.... I am sure you were right.

Our minds are fantastic gifts capable of reading our surroundings moment by moment, good thing for those immature girls you were there to do for them what their in-experience could not do, pick up on something out of place. You go girl!

OP - Is it possible that the creepy guy was going in and out of the locker room to plant and then retrieve a video camera? I imagine that probably already occurred to the police but you might mention it just in case. Do you know if he was carrying something in his hand on the surveillance tape?

How did the women in the locker rooms not notice he was in there with them?

That makes no sense-how would he know the women's area was empty before he entere, and if he walked in and somebody caught him, why wasn't he tossed out? 1+1=3.

Edited out...don't want to give creepy guys ideas!

I imagine they did notice, but I really do not know I was not there.I did not see any of that. My run in with him was at the womens fitness room, he was looking in the window. There is no way you could not notice a man walking in to a locker room!

GOOD FOR YOU, OP! I'm so glad you listened to your instincts. Better safe than sorry. Also, I know PP said he could be mentally disabled, but like she said-- doesn't mean he can't harm someone. My DBF works with the mentally ill and today was thrown against the wall and choked. In the past, he's been grabbed by the "male area," slapped across the face, had his glasses stabbed into his face (scar from that one), etc. Sometimes the mentally ill can be MORE dangerous (in a sexual or physical way) than "normal" people because they don't know boundaries, etc. They are also far more like to get caught doing something wrong.
Heaven forbid a young girl or teenager was in the locker room changing when he went in! :scared1: I pray they catch this perv (which it sounds like they will...I'm sure he'll come back to the gym) and proper action is taken! I'm glad they took you seriously!
