A quick question here. Can we charge any purchases such as gift shop items or counter service meals, etc to our room?

I called disney customer service and they said that each property has their own policy regarding this ( which doesn't sound right to me) about this.
Does anyone have any info?

We have always used our room keys to charge things to our room. We use a credit card when registering and they just add any charges we make using our room key to our credit card. We have charged different things throughout all of the parks this way without any problems. It saves us from caring a lot of cash and credit cards around.

The room key charge is one of the really wonderful things about staying on property!They give you a set amount you can charge on your room key.
For Value Resort's it is $500.00
For Moderates it is $1000.00
(I have heard it's 1500.00 for Deluxe... but haven't actually experienced that.)
If you reach your limit you can ask them to 'run your credit card' and it will free up the same amount again.

We thought it was always $1000.00 since we had always stayed at moderates. Found out the hard way about the values when our card was denied! Bummer! But we got it straightened out and everything was fine.

The cards can be used for almost anything... we just bring a little cash for drink vendors and Mickey Bars!

I agree that it is really easy to use your room card as a charge card. Just about every location within WDW will take it, even some of the carts in the parks (and I understand more are getting the card readers). When you reach the limit (if you do) your resort will process the charge and start over again at zero. You can get a print out any time from the front desk detailing all the charges. You will also get a list of charges at check out. If you choose the express check out they will hang it in an envelope on your door the morning you are leaving.
