Credit score question

Getting back to the cost issue, I just finished pulling my TransUnion report and score. It cost me $5.95. Now if the other 2 bureaus charge about the same amount, that's still only $18 for all 3 scores. So that $40 deal still doesn't sound so great, unless the other companies charge more than $5.95.

I must say I knew my credit was good, but I was a bit surprised to see my score was over 900. Must be doing something right.

Wow, I thought the max was 850. That's really good.

Disneysteve,

Did you pay $5.95 directly though the transunion website? I paid the $40 something through myfico --- since Suzi Ormand recommended them specifically, I assumed I was not getting ripped off.

Let's all switch to cash only so we don't have to think about our credit scores!

Nope. Max is 925.

I started at annualcreditreport.com. I picked TransUnion for my free report. It then linked me to TransUnion's site where I also requested the credit score for the $5.95 fee.

Sorry, a true FICO score only goes up to 850. What you got was a credit score (probably a FAKO) but not a FICO.

Even more confusing. So the credit scores each company sells aren't comparable and aren't even based on the same scale.

Pretty much. Most companies check FICO - even this varies between each credit bureau. Popular opinion seems to be that FAKO is worthless. Do a search on creditboards.com for FICO/FAKO. It will help explain - but it's still confusing.
