Credit Cards + Overdrafts

Claire

Wishing you all the best and hope you're debt free before you know it.

On alot of these programmes where they help people get out of debt they often say the worst spenders actually become the best savers ;)

Oh wow, this thread has hit a deep nerve with me, I am one of those people who is now in the process of re-financing because of the debt I have accumulated. In 10 years (I am 28) I have accumulated ............£90,000!! And this is how you do it children:
You start with a credit card, then another until you can't pay the debts. You conmsolidate those debts with a small loan (I think it was £5k the first time), then you do it all over again, except this then turns into mortgages. The stress destroyed my marriage (he did help accumulate this problem though) and nearly my health, and believe me there is a line you reach which is your personal limit, and i have reached it about a year ago. All I can say now is to anybody that thinks they may not be able to resist the will to spend, please please don't even apply. i thought my credit was shocking and wouldn't get any more credit and sure enough, another card came through the door, it is stupid how easy it really is to get in this debt, and even more nieve to think that it is monopoly money, and not take responsibility for your actions. I really learnt my lesson the hard way and it is a miracle that i still have a house to sit in and type this to you now.
My re-finance completes next Thursday and so does that phase of my life. Sorry if I brought anyone down and I do know how stupid I have been.

Good luck Claire

We managed to 'rack up' debts of over £25,000 - it's so easy to do :scared1:

I, personally, believe that, by recognising you're in trouble, you're more than half way there to sorting yourself out :thumbsup2

We were very lucky and have managed to pay off our credit cards.
We still have a small loan to 'sort' but we'll get there, and so will you :thumbsup2

Oh Claire,
How I feel for you. I hope so much that in time you can sort everything out and be free.
Carolyn

Claire, I really feel for you, I bet most people here are thing 'there but for the grace of god' remember we are here for you, you are still young enough to get out of this mess and I applaud you for trying to rather than just going down the 'easy' bankruptcy route.
wishing you a speedy recovery from it all

Claire, one of the most important things to realise is that you are not alone. This is a very "normal" issue. The amount is, in a way, irrelevant - it is the concept.
Doing what you have done is the right approach, and life carries on.
In my experience, the only thing you need to ensure is that any action you take to rectify the situation is on reasonable terms. People often think their credit rating is worse than it is and accept expensive terms.

Hope that didn't sound to condescending.

Oh and apparently worse things happen at sea:thumbsup2

Firstly, so sorry for hijacking the thread, was not my intention, just wanted to give a severe warning to all who are tempted. secondly, thankyou so much for your kind words, i have been through a lot since August and your support means everything, I'm getting there bit by bit, this stuff is sent to test you, and I'm stronger than i thought:goodvibes Lots of love to everybody xx

Claire,
Best of luck to you. Keep fighting. I believe the expression is....... there but the grace of God go I, and these days thousands of others.

My, most important, advice is to put the Citizen's Advice Bureau above all other, more expensive, unnecessary, avenues, when it comes to debt advice :thumbsup2
