Credit Cards for Dummies

Years ago, XH messed up or finances so badly that we filed for bankruptcy. Now, 8 years later, I am remarried and about to graduate college and would like to get a credit card- I have been told I need to start building credit. I always use my Chase Visa debit and have had an account with them for 5 years. Where would be the best place to get one? Can I even get one at this point? Are there companies who are more lenient than others?

Since you have had a checking account with Chase for five years, I would start with them. You might want to go into a branch and discuss this directly with a platform officer.

In addition, I would suggest pulling your credit reports from all three credit bureaus by using www.annualcreditreport.com which is the only site that is actually free; it is the government-authorized site. See what, if anything is currently on your reports. Also, you might want to go to www.creditboards.com for additional advice; that is a discussion board similar to DisBoards.
