Credit Card

Is a credit card necessary for the ship? Can it be a debit bank card? :3dglasses

Yes, I have used my Visa bank debit card on the ship.

I used my debit card (with Visa logo) to put on my acct. last Sunday.
The older gentleman CM who looked over all my paperwork before I approached the check-in counter didn't approve of me doing it (and loudly told me so), but I did it anyway. He just wanted me to know that I was better protected if I used a credit card.

You can't say "put $500 on acct." like you can when you give them travelers checks or cash. Whatever is in the bank acct. will be free and clear to them whenever they decide to charge. They seemed to charge mine whenever I exceeded $250 each time. Be sure you have enough in there, or be sure to keep up with your charges.

There are legal protections you get with a credit card that you don't get with a debit card, but Disney is a legit operation and you're not likely to have issues.
I think the biggest thing to remember with either is, make sure you have enough cash or credit available. Some on this board have posted that they maxed out their credit card paying for the trip, and got into trouble on board.
And remember, even with travel insurance, if you have a covered expense, YOU have to pay it upfront, the insurance company will reminburse you later.
If you have to lay out last minute air fare for 4 folks, it can easily exceed $2000.
