When we check into the resort, how much of a hold does Disney put on your credit card if you are going to be staying 10 days.
Since the room is already prepaid, I was just curious as to how they figure out what to hold. Can you tell them what amounf to hold?

I thought that they did $1200 for a week but I'm not sure.

You can give them cash to charge against but I'm not sure if they require a minimum amount. I wouldn't travel with a lot of cash.

Sorry I can't be more helpful but I think it was either $1200 or $1500 that they authorized last time we checked in.

On our next trip we will be staying on site for the first time so I have not had the experience of Disney putting a "hold" on my credit card. Is this for purchases at the park? The room will be paid when we check in so why would they need to put a hold on more money on my credit card? Also if they do put a hold for $1200 (we will be there 8 nights) how hard is it to get it credited back if I don't spend that much?

I don't know, but we were planning on paying cash (travel's checks that is), for everything else while we were there. I don't want to come home with a big credit card bill.
I think I will give them that cash deposit and work off that.
I know it takes about a week or so for a credit on your credit card to come back when others put a hold on it, but maybe Disney is a little faster!

They put a hold on for incidentals-food, souveniers.

I'm sure they don't have to put on $1200.

You wouldn't need to get anything credited back since they only put on an authorization. You aren't charged until you check out unless you go over the amount they authorize then I think they have to do an additional authorization.

I'm sure you know your own spending habits and can suggest an appropriate amount. They probably start off with a higher amount so they don't have to go back and get more and more authorizations on credit cards.

You can also give them cash or traveler's checks.

They just put a one dollar charge through on your credit card to make sure it is valid and active....after that, how much is held depends upon how much you actually spend...you may sign for charges to your room on this "folio" account for up to $500 value resorts $1000 moderate resorts or $1500 deluxe resorts before they will put the charges through...if you would like to charge to the room but reconcile the account with cash you may do that before your charges reach that point...you can ask for a print out every day to monitor how much you are spending or to pay as you go along

I had a LOT of concerns about this issue so I called myself and here is the information that I was given:

When you check in, there is a hold for $1 placed on your credit card. There is nothing held other than that. (Unless you are paying your room balance...that is charged upon check in)

They then give you the option of charging things to your room. You do NOT have to do this if you don't want to! The way it then works is, they open a line of credit. The MAXIMUM amount you can open is:

$500 for the value resorts
$1000 for the moderate resorts
$1500 for the deluxe resorts

Remember that that is only the maximum. You can specify any amount UP to the amounts listed. Also, they do NOT put a hold on the amount.

As you charge your way around the world, the purchases are billed to your room. When you accrue purchases in the amount of your credit line, it is THEN billed to your room, and a new line of credit is opened automatically. If you don't accrue up to that credit line, I think the charges are put through to your credit card when you check out.

My understanding is that they only put a hold on your card if you are using it for room charges. If you do not want to charge to your room, then tell them that when you check in.

during check in the CM usually asks if you would like room charging prividges. If you decline them, (which I always do), they don't put a hold on your credit card.
