When we check in for our two night stay at HRH will they place a hold on our card for anymore than the one night we owe?

Thanks,
Anne

Are you using a check/debit card? You might want to check with the hotel directly about their policy. That happened to us at the Kalihari Resort in Sandusky, OH, but luckily I had held the room with a regular visa, but they did say they if I had booked with the other, then they would have put a hold for outrageous amount on there.

We used a debit/credit card this year at RPR booked thru AAA and they charged our entire stay to the card when we checked in and they were suppose to charge us a 1 night deposit but they never did.

while it's on my mind...I read an article in Reader's Digest that showed different ways to protect yourself from theft, identity theft and hidden charges.

1. Hotels holding extra charges on debit cards.
2. Gas stations holding extra charges on debit cards.
Both of these practices, if you're like me and have my checking account close to the pennies, might cause over draft fees and then you will really have a headache.
3. Never give a debit card to pay in restaurants--human theft,

no, they won't.

normally, when you make your reservation, you pay a one night stay at that time.

when you check out, you pay the remainder of the cost of your stay.

in ky07's situation, i have no idea why he paid both nights in advance at check in. since he booked thru AAA, maybe it was a procedure to do it that way.

i don't use a third party when i book for the UO onsite hotels.

i have stayed 21 times at the onsite hotels and have always settled my bill at the time of check out.

You do settle your final bill at the end of your stay.

However, when you check in, they will put a hold on your credit card for the balance (make sure you mention you have already paid for one night) + a certain amount over what the final bill will be to cover any incidentals you might rack up.

If you want charging privileges to your room key, they will put an additional hold on x amount of $$ to cover any charges you may be making.

The hold doesn't actually charge your card yet, you are right in that is done when you check out. But Loews does put a hold on the funds so that you can't spend them while you are there and is assured that the funds will be available when you settle your bill at the end of your stay.
